Schengen Tourist Visa Eligibility Check

Answer 10 quick questions to see your likelihood of approval. This is not a guarantee — final decision is always with the Embassy — but it flags common weak spots so you can address them before applying.

0 / 10
1

What's the primary purpose of your trip?

2

How long do you plan to stay?

3

Have you previously visited any Schengen country?

4

Have you ever been refused a Schengen (or any country's) visa?

Past refusals must be disclosed — they show up in VIS database across Schengen countries.

5

Do you have confirmed travel bookings?

Reservations are enough — don't buy tickets until visa approval.

6

What's your current employment status?

7

What's your typical 3-month bank balance?

Schengen needs ~₹700/day covered. For a 10-day trip, minimum ₹70,000 stable balance.

8

How many years of Income Tax Returns (ITR) can you show?

9

What are your strongest ties to India (return-intent)?

Embassies want evidence you'll come back — not overstay.

10

Who are you travelling with?

Indicative only — final decision is always with the Embassy.

💡 Pro Tips

  • The VU2 online invitation is transformative — it pre-validates your host's ability to hostfrom the Danish side and reduces scrutiny.
  • If host is sponsoring, both the invitation AND the host's bank statements may be requested by the Embassy.
  • For parents visiting adult children — include proof the child is legally resident (residence card / work permit / student permit).
  • Your Danish host should submit an ONLINE invitation at nyidanmark.dk (VU1 business / VU2 family-friends) — this is the preferred method and speeds up processing.
  • Fill the application form online at applyvisa.um.dk BEFORE visiting VFS — most VFS centres have only 1 PC for on-site filling which creates long queues.
  • Biometrics are valid for 59 months — if you gave them for a previous Schengen visa in the last 5 years, you may be exempt (check with VFS when booking).

Common Rejection Reasons

  • 1.Weak proof of relationship for 'close friends' — no correspondence history, no prior meetings documented
  • 2.Host's financial capacity insufficient to cover a long stay
  • 3.Applicant lacks return-intent ties to India
  • 4.Inconsistent trip narrative (e.g. booked to travel alone to Schengen countries outside Denmark)

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the VU2 online invitation mandatory?+
Not strictly mandatory — paper invitations are accepted. But VU2 is STRONGLY recommended by the Embassy and makes approvals significantly smoother.
Can my host in Denmark financially sponsor my entire trip?+
Yes — the host declares this in the VU2 invitation. You still need to show your own bank statements for credibility, but the host's declaration reduces the scrutiny on your financials.
Can I stay with my host instead of a hotel?+
Yes. The host's Danish address (mentioned in the invitation) serves as your accommodation proof — no hotel booking needed.
What if my host is a friend, not a blood relative?+
Fully allowed. The challenge is proving the relationship is genuine — photos from prior visits, email/WhatsApp history, wedding invitations, etc. help. Fabricated friendships to get visas are the leading refusal cause in this category.
Can multiple family members apply together?+
Yes. Each applicant files individually (with their own fee) but all can reference the same host invitation and submit at VFS on the same day / appointment slot.
