Special Instructions — Read Before Applying

These requirements apply to ALL Denmark visa types. Violations mean your application will be rejected — read each one carefully.

  • 1Apply at least 15 days before travel — up to 6 months ahead is accepted. You may be called for an interview at the Embassy.
  • 2Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended stay, have at least 2 blank pages, and must have been issued within the last 10 years.
  • 3Handwritten or non-machine-readable Indian passports issued after 01/04/2010 are NOT accepted.
  • 4Carry any old/expired passports — the Embassy wants to see all previous Schengen entry/exit stamps.
  • 5Travel medical insurance covering minimum €30,000 is MANDATORY for all Schengen countries, covering the entire trip plus COVID-19 treatment and emergency medical evacuation.
  • 6Bank balance: minimum DKK 350 per day (private accommodation) or DKK 500 per day (hotel). Last 3 months statement required — stamped and signed by the bank — even if you are being sponsored.
  • 7Missing documents can be sent to VFS within 3 business days, in person OR via email to delambvisa@um.dk.
  • 8Do NOT purchase your flight ticket until your visa is approved — only reservations are needed at application.

Who Can Apply

  • Indian citizens travelling to Denmark for tourism, holidays, or sightseeing
  • Visitors planning to explore multiple Schengen countries with Denmark as the main destination
  • Travellers with confirmed flight + accommodation reservations

The journey.

5 steps from intake to approval. Curved spine on the right shows the natural pace — never as linear as government sites pretend.

  1. 01

    Fill form online

Go to applyvisa.um.dk → complete your application → pay the visa fee online → print the filled form AND the fee receipt.

  2. 02

    Book a VFS appointment

Go to visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/dnk → select your nearest VFS centre → book a biometrics appointment.

  3. 03

    Submit documents + biometrics

Attend VFS with all original documents + photocopies + printed form. Give fingerprints and facial photo (unless already provided within last 59 months).

  4. 04

    Application sent to Embassy

VFS couriers your file to the Royal Danish Embassy, New Delhi. Processing (15 days standard) begins only when the Embassy receives it — NOT when you submit at VFS.

  5. 05

    Decision + passport return

Decision communicated via SMS/email. Passport returned to VFS or via courier (if you opted for courier service).

What works

6 levers that flip a borderline case.

  • Your Danish host should submit an ONLINE invitation at nyidanmark.dk (VU1 business / VU2 family-friends) — this is the preferred method and speeds up processing.
  • Fill the application form online at applyvisa.um.dk BEFORE visiting VFS — most VFS centres have only 1 PC for on-site filling which creates long queues.
  • Biometrics are valid for 59 months — if you gave them for a previous Schengen visa in the last 5 years, you may be exempt (check with VFS when booking).
  • Apply 3–4 weeks before travel as a sweet spot — early enough for extended processing, not so early that itinerary / bookings become stale.

What kills cases

Top 3 refusal triggers we see.

  • 1Insufficient bank balance for the duration of stay (not meeting DKK 350/500 per day rule)
  • 2Weak ties to India — no family/property/job commitments making return likely
  • 3Travel insurance not meeting €30,000 minimum OR not covering full trip duration

Schengen Tourist Visa Eligibility Check

Answer 10 quick questions to see your likelihood of approval. This is not a guarantee — final decision is always with the Embassy — but it flags common weak spots so you can address them before applying.

0 / 10
1

What's the primary purpose of your trip?

2

How long do you plan to stay?

3

Have you previously visited any Schengen country?

4

Have you ever been refused a Schengen (or any country's) visa?

Past refusals must be disclosed — they show up in VIS database across Schengen countries.

5

Do you have confirmed travel bookings?

Reservations are enough — don't buy tickets until visa approval.

6

What's your current employment status?

7

What's your typical 3-month bank balance?

Schengen needs ~₹700/day covered. For a 10-day trip, minimum ₹70,000 stable balance.

8

How many years of Income Tax Returns (ITR) can you show?

9

What are your strongest ties to India (return-intent)?

Embassies want evidence you'll come back — not overstay.

10

Who are you travelling with?

Indicative only — final decision is always with the Embassy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enter other Schengen countries with a Denmark tourist visa?+
Yes. A Denmark Schengen visa allows travel across all 29 Schengen countries (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Austria, Netherlands, etc.) for the validity period and stay allowance printed on the sticker.
How far in advance can I apply for a Denmark tourist visa?+
Up to 6 months before your travel date. The recommended sweet spot is 3–4 weeks before — early enough to handle extended processing, not so early that your bookings become stale.
Is an interview mandatory for a Denmark tourist visa?+
No — most applicants don't face an interview. However, the Royal Danish Embassy may call you for one if your application raises questions (financial background, travel history, purpose clarity). The Embassy notifies you via VFS if needed.
Can I work on a Denmark tourist visa?+
Absolutely not. A tourist visa does NOT authorise paid employment in Denmark. Working on a tourist visa can result in deportation and a multi-year Schengen ban. For work, apply for a Residence + Work Permit via nyidanmark.dk.
What happens if my Denmark tourist visa is refused?+
The Embassy issues a refusal letter stating the reason. You can reapply anytime with new/stronger documentation addressing the refusal reason. SureshotVisa specialises in refusal rebuilds — we decode the real reason (often different from what's written) and restructure the case for reapplication.
How much bank balance is required for a Denmark tourist visa?+
Minimum DKK 350 per day if staying in private accommodation, or DKK 500 per day if staying in hotels — for the full duration of your stay. E.g., a 10-day hotel stay requires ~DKK 5,000 (~₹63,000). The 3-month bank statement must show this balance consistently.
Do I need a different visa for Greenland or Faroe Islands?+
Yes. Greenland and the Faroe Islands are NOT part of the Schengen area. If you plan to visit either, you need to apply for a separate visa that explicitly mentions those territories — a standard Denmark Schengen visa does NOT cover them.

Before you apply

Two ways to apply for your Denmark denmark tourist visa (schengen type c — short stay).

Do it yourself

the risky route

  • You guess which papers Denmark actually wants — one missing or wrongly-framed document triggers a refusal.
  • You copy a cover letter off YouTube or Google — often the exact template embassies already flag as weak.
  • You apply during a known peak-rejection window without realising it.
  • Embassy & VFS fees are non-refundable — refused means your money, flights and leave are gone.
  • One refusal stamp follows you for life — every future visa, anywhere, must declare it.

With SureshotVisa

the approved route

  • A licensed consultant checks your case honestly before you spend a rupee on embassy fees.
  • We build your Denmark denmark tourist visa (schengen type c — short stay) file the way the embassy approves — documents, cover letter, financials.
  • We catch the weak-ties, funding and intent issues behind 70% of Indian refusals — and fix them first.
  • We've rescued hundreds of files that were already refused once and got them approved.

Why DIY goes wrong

How a self-filed application turns into a refusal.

  1. 1

    You feel ready

A few YouTube videos make the process look simple.

  2. 2

    You file it yourself

You submit a sensitive denmark tourist visa (schengen type c — short stay) on your own.

  3. 3

    One detail misreads

A small framing slip looks like weak ties or unclear intent.

  4. 4

    Refusal

Now every future visa, anywhere, must declare it.

Once you've been refused, you learn the hard way how much the small details mattered. We'd rather you never collect that first stamp.
