Special Instructions — Read Before Applying

These requirements apply to ALL Denmark visa types. Violations mean your application will be rejected — read each one carefully.

  • 2Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended stay, have at least 2 blank pages, and must have been issued within the last 10 years.
  • 3Handwritten or non-machine-readable Indian passports issued after 01/04/2010 are NOT accepted.
  • 4Carry any old/expired passports — the Embassy wants to see all previous Schengen entry/exit stamps.
  • 5Travel medical insurance covering minimum €30,000 is MANDATORY for all Schengen countries, covering the entire trip plus COVID-19 treatment and emergency medical evacuation.
  • 6Bank balance: minimum DKK 350 per day (private accommodation) or DKK 500 per day (hotel). Last 3 months statement required — stamped and signed by the bank — even if you are being sponsored.
  • 7Missing documents can be sent to VFS within 3 business days, in person OR via email to delambvisa@um.dk.
  • 8Do NOT purchase your flight ticket until your visa is approved — only reservations are needed at application.

💡 Pro Tips

  • The Danish invitation is the strongest document — make sure dates, purpose, and your role are clearly stated.
  • For athletes, include recent sports achievements in the Indian institution letter to strengthen credibility.
  • For students: even for a 2-week summer school, show you're returning to your ongoing course in India (enrolment certificate).
  • Your Danish host should submit an ONLINE invitation at nyidanmark.dk (VU1 business / VU2 family-friends) — this is the preferred method and speeds up processing.
  • Fill the application form online at applyvisa.um.dk BEFORE visiting VFS — most VFS centres have only 1 PC for on-site filling which creates long queues.
  • Biometrics are valid for 59 months — if you gave them for a previous Schengen visa in the last 5 years, you may be exempt (check with VFS when booking).

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I take up paid employment during a study/sports visit?+
No. Short-stay visas don't authorise paid work. Even training-allowance payments from a Danish entity require a Work Permit.
What if my Danish course is longer than 90 days?+
Apply for a Student Residence Permit (long-term) at nyidanmark.dk instead. That's a separate application via the Long-Term route.
Do I need to show fluency in Danish?+
No — English is sufficient for most short-term programmes. Language skills are relevant only if the programme specifically requires Danish.
Can my family visit me during my short study?+
Yes — they apply for tourist/family visit visas separately. Your enrolment gives them a valid purpose to mention in their applications.
