Good to know before you apply
Rules that apply to every Denmark visa type — worth a quick read so nothing trips up your file.
- 1Apply at least 15 days before travel — up to 6 months ahead is accepted. You may be called for an interview at the Embassy.
- 2Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended stay, have at least 2 blank pages, and must have been issued within the last 10 years.
- 3Handwritten or non-machine-readable Indian passports issued after 01/04/2010 are NOT accepted.
- 4Carry any old/expired passports — the Embassy wants to see all previous Schengen entry/exit stamps.
- 5Travel medical insurance covering minimum €30,000 is MANDATORY for all Schengen countries, covering the entire trip plus COVID-19 treatment and emergency medical evacuation.
- 6Bank balance: minimum DKK 350 per day (private accommodation) or DKK 500 per day (hotel). Last 3 months statement required — stamped and signed by the bank — even if you are being sponsored.
- 7Missing documents can be sent to VFS within 3 business days, in person OR via email to delambvisa@um.dk.
- 8Do NOT purchase your flight ticket until your visa is approved — only reservations are needed at application.

Yes, Indian citizens are listed among nationalities requiring an ATV for stopovers at Danish airports, regardless of how short the transit is.
Currently both cost the same €90 (plus VFS/courier fees). ATV has simpler documentation (no need to prove Danish accommodation since you won't leave the airport).
No. A US/UK/Canada/Australia visa is a SUPPORTING document for your ATV application — it does not replace the ATV itself.
If you're stranded in the transit zone, the airline handles rebooking. If you're forced to exit the airport (overnight hotel, etc.), that would technically violate an ATV — contact the Danish border officials at the airport for guidance.
