Hungary — Full Schengen member · Two India jurisdictions
One Hungary visa = all 29 Schengen countries. But the right Indian jurisdiction is non-negotiable.
Hungary processes Indian applications through TWO offices: the Embassy in New Delhi for north India, and the Consulate General in Mumbai for south & west (Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Cochin, Pune, Goa, Puducherry, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad). Submit to the wrong one and your file is returned without a decision. All applications go via VFS Joint Visa Application Centre.
29 Schengen countries
Full Schengen member — Hungary visa unlocks the whole zone during validity, not just Hungary.
15 calendar days
Minimum processing. Apply at least 15 days before travel; max six months in advance.
VFS Joint Centre
All submissions via VFS — biometrics required on long-term D visas (₹1,920 extra service fee).

Special Instructions — Read Before Applying
These requirements apply to ALL Hungary visa types. Violations mean your application will be rejected — read each one carefully.
- 1Hungary processes Indian applications through TWO offices: Embassy of Hungary, New Delhi (north India) and Consulate General of Hungary, Mumbai (south & west: Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Sri Lanka). Applying at the wrong jurisdiction means your file gets returned without decision.
- 2All applications submit through VFS Joint Visa Application Centre — biometrics are mandatory on long-term D applications (₹1,920 separate service charge).
- 3Photo specification: 35–40mm wide passport-size, color, white background, no head-dress (except religious), no glasses reflection — slightly different from the typical 35×45mm Schengen photo.
- 4Apply at least 15 calendar days before travel; max 6 months before. Files with less than 15 days' lead may be returned without decision.
- 5Travel medical insurance must be from a Hungary-Embassy-approved Indian insurer with €30,000 minimum coverage and Schengen-wide validity (accident + illness + medical emergency + repatriation).
- 6Passport must be valid at least 3 months beyond intended stay (D visas need ≥18 months), have at least 2 blank pages, and have been issued within the previous 10 years. Handwritten passports issued after 1 April 2010 are NOT accepted; passports with manual corrections in the bio-data page are NOT accepted.
- 7ALL documents marked with (*) must be in ORIGINAL — photocopies are not enough.
- 8Sri Lanka nationals must apply at the German Embassy Colombo (which issues Hungary visas on Hungary's behalf), not at India centres.
- 9The mere possession of a Hungary visa does NOT confer automatic right of entry — the Schengen Border Officer at first point of entry can still refuse admission if doubts arise about the visit's purpose.
- 10Conference-category invitation letter MUST be issued in Hungarian language. English-language invitations are not accepted for this category.
- 11Researchers / postgraduates / accompanying teachers attending scientific events may be visa-fee-exempt — check with the Embassy / Consulate.
Who Can Apply
- Indian delegates with confirmed conference / seminar registration in Hungary
- Speakers, panellists, abstract presenters, and accompanying delegates
- Researchers and postgraduates attending scientific events (often visa-fee-exempt)
Not eligible under this visa:
- General tourists — apply for Tourist Visa instead
Previously Refused?
SPECIAL OFFERYour Hungary visa refusal isn't the end — it's a fixable situation.
Most refusal letters read like code. We decode the real reason behind your refusal — often different from what the letter says — and rebuild your case with a refusal-specific strategy. Refused applicants pay the same fee as first-time applicants, and we back it with our dedicated refusal-rebuild process.

💡 Pro Tips
- Get the conference invitation in Hungarian early — many event organisers default to English; specifically ask the host institution for a Hungarian version.
- If you're presenting an abstract, attach the abstract acceptance email — strengthens 'genuine delegate' narrative.
- Researchers may qualify for visa-fee waiver — ask the Embassy at submission.
Common Rejection Reasons
- 1.Invitation letter in English only (Hungarian language is mandatory for this category)
- 2.Conference programme missing applicant's role
- 3.Insufficient ties-to-India documentation
