The money, honestly
What you spend.
What simply stays yours.
Most agents blur these two numbers together. The visa asks you to show funds — that money remains yours to live on in Canada. What you actually spend on the visa process is far smaller.

Canada student-visa FAQs
Is Canada's SDS fast-track still open?
No — SDS closed on 8 Nov 2024. All Indian applicants now use the regular stream; a GIC plus paid tuition still makes a stronger file.
Do I lose the CAD 22,895 GIC money?
No. The GIC is your own deposit — it is released back to you in monthly instalments for living costs after you arrive in Canada.
How many hours can I work while studying?
24 hours/week off-campus during classes and full-time during scheduled breaks, provided your permit carries work conditions.
Can my spouse get a work permit?
Only if you study in a masters programme of 16+ months, a doctoral programme, or select professional degrees — spousal open work permits were tightened in 2024–25.
