Denmark flag — visa destination Residence Permit for Higher Education (ST1) — issued by SIRI

Study in Denmark
from India

Not free for Indians — non-EU/EEA tuition is typically EUR 6,000–16,000/year (≈₹5.4–14.4 lakh); Danish Government and university scholarships can reduce it. Applications are filed from India via Online on nyidanmark.dk (ST1 form) + biometrics at VFS Global Denmark centres in India (New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Cochin, Ahmedabad) — and everything from admission to the visa appointment can be handled for you, end to end.

Work while studying

90 hours/month during the normal study period September–May; full-time in June, July and August (work right granted with the permit)

Intakes

September (main) + February (limited programmes)

Visa processing

SIRI's service goal is 2 months; allow 1–3 months in peak season — apply 3+ months before your start date

After you graduate

3-year job-seeking period granted automatically along with graduate study permits (professional bachelor, bachelor, master, PhD) if passport validity allows — same 90 hours/month work right during it; master's programmes for working professionals get only 6 months

The money, honestly

What you spend.
What simply stays yours.

Most agents blur these two numbers together. The visa asks you to show funds — that money remains yours to live on in Denmark. What you actually spend on the visa process is far smaller.

You spend

visa process, one-time
  • SIRI application fee (DKK 3,060)≈₹40,000
  • VFS service fee for residence-permit biometrics≈₹3,500–5,000
  • Photos, copies, courier≈₹2,000–4,000
  • Travel to nearest VFS centre≈₹2,000–8,000
Realistic total≈₹48,000–57,000

Visa process typically under ₹2 lakh

Our filing service is charged separately (₹24,999–₹34,999, 18% GST included).

≈₹97,000/month; cap ≈₹11.6 lakh

DKK 7,426/month (2026 level); capped at DKK 89,112 total for stays over 1 year

Bank statement in your own name showing the monthly amount for your stay; not required at all if your tuition already covers/includes the period or a scholarship covers living costs

This is proof of funds, not a fee — you live on it in Denmark.

Excludes tuition (EUR 6,000–16,000/year, first instalment usually paid before applying), the DKK 7,426/month funds you SHOW (that money stays yours to live on), flights and living costs. No separate insurance purchase needed — CPR registration gives public healthcare after arrival.

Step by step

Admission to boarding,
one clear path.

  1. Step 1

Get admission and pay first tuition

Apply to a Danish institution; the admission letter and tuition receipt anchor the permit file.

  2. Step 2

    Institution starts the ST1 form

Your university fills Part 1 of the ST1 online and passes it to you — you cannot start Part 1 yourself.

  3. Step 3

Create a case order ID and pay DKK 3,060

Pay the SIRI fee online on nyidanmark.dk; save the receipt — the case is not processed without it.

  4. Step 4

Complete ST1 Part 2 with documents

Upload passport, funds/tuition proof, admission and education documents and submit online.

  5. Step 5

Biometrics at VFS within 14 days

Visit any VFS Denmark centre in India to record fingerprints and photo — the 14-day clock starts at submission.

  6. Step 6

    SIRI decision (~2 months)

Permit is granted with the 3-year job-seeking period attached; you receive an entry sticker/letter to travel.

  7. Step 7

    Register after arrival

Get your CPR number (unlocks public healthcare) and collect the residence card in Denmark.

Learn from refusals

Why Denmark refuses student files

SIRI doubts the genuine study intention (profile inconsistent with the programme — a real assessment ground, not a formality)

Self-support wrongly documented — funds in a parent's account instead of the student's own name, or balance below DKK 7,426/month

Missed 14-day biometrics deadline or incomplete ST1 file (missing tuition receipt / case order ID)

Denmark student-visa FAQs

Is education free in Denmark for Indian students?

No. Free tuition is only for EU/EEA students. Indians pay roughly EUR 6,000–16,000/year, though Danish Government and university scholarships can cut this substantially.

Is the 3-year stay-back really automatic?

Yes — SIRI attaches a 3-year job-seeking period to graduate study permits automatically, as far as your passport validity allows. It carries the same 90-hours-per-month work right; it is not a job or PR guarantee.

Do I need a separate IELTS for the visa?

SIRI has no separate language test; you submit whatever English proof your institution required for admission.

Can my spouse come along?

Yes, accompanying family members can apply for their own residence permits (separate fee), and a student's spouse gets full-time work rights in Denmark.
