Fly, then switch to TRP
Enter on the multi-entry D visa and apply through MIGRIS for the study temporary residence permit (state fee €80, urgent €320) before the visa expires.

Is IELTS mandatory for the visa?
The visa itself has no language test. Universities typically want IELTS ~5.5–6.0 or their own English interview, and the Migration Department may also interview you about your study plan.
Is the €577/month money spent?
No. It is proof of funds shown in a bank account and remains your money to live on. What you actually spend on the process is roughly ₹28,000–45,000 (fee, insurance, apostille, service charges).
Do I get a visa or a residence permit?
Both, in sequence: most Indian students enter on a multi-entry National Visa D, then switch to a study Temporary Residence Permit via MIGRIS after arriving in Lithuania.
Can I work during my studies?
Yes — with a study residence permit you can work without a separate work permit, but the hours were cut back in 2026: since the migration-law amendments in force on 22 May 2026, first- and second-year bachelor's students may work no more than 20 hours a week (mandatory course internships and summer holidays excepted). Later-year, master's and PhD students may work full-time. Never budget your funds proof around a job.
