Secure enrolment at a recognized Luxembourg higher-education institution (uni.lu applications close well before intake).

Apply for authorisation to stay
Before travelling, send the student application to the Immigration Directorate of Luxembourg's Ministry of Home Affairs with enrolment, funds and clean-record proof.

With the original authorisation approval, file the long-stay visa at the Embassy of Luxembourg, New Delhi (VFS submission/courier accepted) — €50 fee.

Allow the 25–30 working days the embassy advises. Carry the authorisation original when you fly.

Make the declaration of arrival at your commune within 3 days, then complete the medical exam and TB screening.

Luxembourg decides your case first: the Immigration Directorate in Luxembourg issues a temporary authorisation to stay. The D visa is the second, quicker step — but there is no statutory deadline; the embassy advises allowing 25–30 working days once the authorisation exists.
The funds figure looks high — do I pay it to anyone?
No. You show roughly 80% of Luxembourg's REVIS — €1,555.52/month under the rates in force from 1 June 2026, and it is re-indexed — in your own account or via a scholarship. It remains your money to live on; Luxembourg rents make most of it necessary anyway.
Is studying in Luxembourg really that cheap?
