Step 1
Get admission from a Dutch institution
Only IND-recognised sponsor institutions can bring foreign students — practically all Dutch universities and HBOs are.
Step 2
University starts your visa file
The university files the combined MVV + residence permit (TEV) application with the IND — you never apply to the IND yourself.
Step 3
Pay the fee and arrange proof of funds
Pay the €254 IND fee (usually billed via the university) and transfer/show €1,130.77 x 12 months as directed by the university.
Step 4
IND decision
Via a recognised sponsor this usually takes 2–4 weeks; the university tracks the file and informs you.
Step 5
MVV appointment at VFS in India
After approval, book VFS, submit your passport and biometrics; the MVV entry sticker must be collected within 3 months.
Step 6
Arrive, collect card, register
Pick up your residence permit card, register with the municipality for your BSN, complete the TB test (required for Indian nationals) and take Dutch health/study insurance.

Do I apply for this visa myself?
No — the Netherlands is sponsor-led. Your university files the MVV + residence permit application with the IND for you. Your job is documents, the €254 fee, the funds transfer and one VFS appointment.
Is the ₹12 lakh proof-of-funds money spent?
No. Most universities have you transfer ~€13,569 to their account, then refund it to your Dutch bank account after you arrive — it becomes your living money. Only tuition and fees are actually spent.
How likely is refusal?
Low compared to most countries, because your university pre-vets the file before the IND sees it — but the IND does refuse for funds gaps, false documents or missed deadlines. No one can promise approval.
Can I stay back after my course?
Graduates can apply for the Orientation Year permit — 12 months to look for work, and you can invoke it any time within 3 years of graduating. It is a stay option, not a job or PR guarantee.
