Norway universities and what they charge you

Norway has charged tuition to non-EU/EEA students since autumn 2023, but there is no national price list — each public institution sets its own cost-covering rates per subject category, so the same subject can cost three times...

Checked against official sources on 2026-08-27. Fees are per year and exclude the semester contribution some universities charge. They move every intake — open the source before you budget.

Country-wide, public universities run from €16,197 to €48,569 a year for a non-EU student, and separately you must prove €15,652 for the year. Tuition and the money you show are different things — see the split above.

Is Norway still tuition-free for Indians?

No. Since autumn 2023 non-EU/EEA students pay tuition at public universities too — roughly NOK 130,000–500,000/year depending on the programme. A few scholarship and exchange arrangements waive it.

Can I just show my Indian bank balance?

No. UDI requires the NOK 170,368 to be in a Norwegian bank account or your university's deposit account before the decision. It remains your own money — you live on it through the year.

Can I work part-time?

Yes — 20 hours/week comes automatically with the first study permit, plus full-time work during holidays. Renewal of the work right depends on normal academic progress.

What happens after graduation?

You can apply for a job-seeker residence permit of up to 12 months (own funds required). It is a search window only — no job or PR is promised.
