from India
Free in Slovak-language public programmes; English-taught programmes typically ≈€2,000–6,000/year, with medicine ≈€9,000+/year. Applications are filed from India via Embassy of the Slovak Republic, New Delhi — student appointments are routed via BLS International centres (Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru) based on university-provided applicant lists — and everything from admission to the visa appointment can be handled for you, end to end.
Work while studying
University students may work up to 20 hours/week without a work permit (secondary-school students 10 hours/week)
Intakes
September (main) + February (limited programmes)
Visa processing
Foreign Police must decide a student's complete residence application within 30 days; plan 6–10 weeks end-to-end including the BLS/embassy appointment and D-visa issuance
After you graduate
Temporary-residence renewal for job-seeking or starting a business after graduating a Slovak university — up to 9 months, with full-time work allowed during it
The money, honestly
What you spend.
What simply stays yours.
Most agents blur these two numbers together. The visa asks you to show funds — that money remains yours to live on in Slovakia. What you actually spend on the visa process is far smaller.
You spend

stays your money≈₹3.9 lakh evidenced for a year
12× the monthly subsistence minimum for a year's stay — €295.22/month from 1 July 2026, i.e. €3,542.64/year
Confirmation of a bank-account balance in the student's own name (or a scholarship confirmation) covering 12× the subsistence minimum for a stay over one year — the financial-coverage document is still required for study residence; the balance stays your money
This is proof of funds, not a fee — you live on it in Slovakia.
Excludes tuition (free only in Slovak-language programmes; English-taught ≈€2,000–6,000/year), the ≈₹3.9 lakh shown as funds (stays your money), flights, living costs, and the in-Slovakia residence-card (≈€10) and medical-check charges.
Step by step
Admission to boarding,
one clear path.
Step 1
Get admission from a Slovak university
Your university submits your name on its applicant list — that list is how BLS/the embassy allocate student appointments, so confirm you're on it.
Step 2
Collect and apostille your documents
Police clearance certificate (apostilled, under 90 days old), academic certificates, funds proof and accommodation evidence — foreign documents need sworn Slovak translations.
Step 3
Submit the study-residence application
File at the BLS International centre or embassy with biometrics; the embassy interviews study applicants for a preliminary assessment of the application.
Step 4
Foreign Police decision within 30 days
Complete student files carry a statutory 30-day decision period — deficiencies pause the clock, so file complete.
Step 5
Get the €14 national D visa and travel
Once residence is granted, the embassy issues a D visa so you can enter Slovakia and collect your residence card (≈€10 issuance).
Step 6
Complete arrival formalities
Report your address, and submit a medical certificate (issued in Slovakia, within 30 days of collecting the permit) to the Foreign Police.

Why Slovakia refuses student files
Negative preliminary-assessment interview — the embassy is not convinced the real purpose is study
Document defects — missing apostille, missing sworn Slovak translations, or a PCC older than 90 days
Funds or accommodation insufficiently documented for the length of stay

Yes. When you submit the temporary-residence application, the embassy interviews you for a preliminary assessment — be ready to explain your course choice, funding and why Slovakia, in your own words.
What does the Slovakia student visa actually cost?
Very little in government fees: the study-residence application is fee-exempt for students and the D visa to collect your permit is €14 (≈₹1,300). Your real spend is translations, apostille, insurance and the BLS service charge.
Can I work while studying in Slovakia?
University students can work up to 20 hours/week without any work permit (10 hours/week for secondary-school students). Exceeding the cap requires the standard work-authorisation route.
Can I stay in Slovakia after graduation?
