Australia Visitor 600: What the Officer Scores — SureshotVisa guide
Officer's lens · Australia · Subclass 600, Tourist stream · 2026

What the case officer is actually scoring on your Subclass 600.

There is no interview, no counter, no sticker. An Australian case officer opens your ImmiAccount file and runs one test: are you a genuine temporary entrant? This is that file, read from their side of the desk.

Section 1 · The test behind the desk

One question decides the Subclass 600: is this a genuine visit?

Australia grants digital visas — no sticker, no in-person lodgement in India. Your case officer never meets you. They meet your file, and they score it against the genuine-temporary-entrant standard.

The Visitor visa (Subclass 600), Tourist stream, is the route for Indian passport holders to holiday in Australia or visit friends and relatives. It is lodged online through ImmiAccount — there is no paper form and no VFS lodgement; VFS in India is only where you give biometrics after applying. The base charge is AUD 200 (roughly ₹11,000 at the day's rate), paid by international card, plus about ₹1,850 for biometrics. Decisions typically take 20–60 days, and the officer can decide without asking you for anything further — so the first submission has to be complete.

Every requirement below is a line the officer scores. Points for genuine temporary intent; points against when the file raises doubt. The full mechanics — fees, ImmiAccount steps, health checks — sit in our Australia tourist visa guide. Here we stay behind the desk.

Section 2 · The scorecard

Five criteria, weighted the way the officer weights them

Genuine visitor evidenceWeight: decisive

The centre of gravity. The officer is looking for a clear, temporary purpose and an itinerary that fits it.

Scores for you: a cover letter stating purpose, duration, cities, and an explicit confirmation you will leave Australia before the visa expires; a day-by-day plan that reads like a real holiday.

Scores against you: a vague "tourism" purpose, an itinerary that doesn't match your stated days, or a travel pattern that hints at settlement rather than a visit.

Sufficient fundsWeight: high

There is no fixed minimum. The officer checks whether the money credibly covers the declared trip — plan around AUD 150–250 per day plus a buffer — with a stable recent history.

Scores for you: six months of stamped, signed statements with a consistent balance; ITRs for 2–3 years that explain that balance; any large deposit explained.

Scores against you: a balance that spikes just before lodgement, or savings your income cannot account for. Consistency over months beats a one-time deposit.

Strong ties to IndiaWeight: high

Ties are the officer's proxy for "will return". Employment, business, property and dependents in India are the return-incentive.

Scores for you: employment letter with approved leave and a stated return-to-work date; GST/company registration for the self-employed; pension statements; property proof; family who depend on you.

Scores against you: no visible anchor in India, or a life that looks equally portable to Australia.

Sponsor / invitation (family visits)Weight: contextual

If you are visiting relatives, the officer reads the host into the picture.

Scores for you: an invitation with the host's address and status, and — where relevant — their financial support. The Department may consider a sponsor's finances.

Scores against you: a host whose details contradict your file, or support that raises more questions than it answers.

Consistency & characterWeight: pass/fail

The quiet disqualifiers. The officer cross-checks every field against every document.

Scores for you: full visa history disclosed (Australia requires it — including refusals from any country), clean character declarations, and, where the stay or history calls for it, health checks via Bupa.

Scores against you: an undisclosed prior refusal, or application details that don't match the supporting documents. Inconsistency is a named refusal ground on its own.

From the officer's side

Because the Department can decide without requesting more information, an incomplete file isn't paused — it's assessed as-is, gaps and all. English translations for non-English documents (NAATI-certified is safest) and clean colour scans are not polish; they're the difference between a file the officer can read and one they can't.

Section 3 · Case notes

Two files, two verdicts

Same country, same fee, same officer. The difference is entirely in what the file communicates.

The file that reads as "maybe leaving, maybe not"

Purpose stated as "tourism, 3 weeks". Balance jumps 8 lakh eleven days before lodgement, no source. Leave letter present, but no return-to-work date. A US refusal three years ago, not mentioned. The officer isn't hostile — they simply can't score genuine temporary intent, so the file fails the test it exists to pass.

The file that reads as "coming back on the 22nd"

Cover letter names the cities, the dates, the reason, and states plainly the applicant returns to work on a specific Monday. Six steady months of statements, ITRs that match, a large deposit tied to a documented FD maturity. Property papers attached. Prior Schengen visa disclosed and used. Nothing for the officer to doubt — so there is nothing to refuse.

Most refusals we rebuild were never about eligibility. They were about a genuine visit that the file failed to look like. Australia gives limited review rights on visitor refusals — you generally cannot appeal from outside the country — so the realistic route after a "no" is a stronger fresh application. The strategy for that lives on our Australia visitor visa from India page.

Section 4 · Building for the score

How to file so the officer scores you a genuine visitor

Work backwards from the test. Decide the real trip first, then build a file that proves that trip is real and temporary. A cover letter that commits to dates and a return. Funds that are yours, stable, and sized to the itinerary. Ties evidenced, not asserted. A funds story assembled the way an assessor reads it — our ITR guide for Australia covers how income tax returns anchor that story. Every field cross-checked against every document, because the one that doesn't match is the one the officer will find.

That is the whole job: give a busy case officer, who will never meet you, no reason to doubt you will come home. We prepare Subclass 600 files this way for ₹15,999 all-in, itemised on the pricing page. What we cannot do — what nobody can — is decide the file. That remains with the Department of Home Affairs.

Section 5 · Questions from the queue

Subclass 600 FAQs, answered plainly

What is the genuine temporary entrant requirement for Australia?

It is the standard the case officer applies to every Subclass 600 file: are you genuinely intending to stay temporarily for the stated purpose, and will you leave at the end? You demonstrate it with a clear purpose, a realistic itinerary, sufficient funds and strong ties to India — the officer scores those together.

How much money should I show for an Australia visitor visa?

There is no fixed figure. Show funds that comfortably cover your declared trip — a working guide is AUD 150–250 per day plus a buffer — with a stable balance over recent months and any large deposit explained. Consistency over six months matters more than a one-time top-up.

Is there an interview for the Subclass 600?

No. Australia decides visitor visas on the documents lodged through ImmiAccount — there is no consular interview. The officer can also decide without requesting anything further, which is why the first submission must be complete and consistent.

Do I apply through VFS Global for an Australia tourist visa?

No — all applications are lodged online through ImmiAccount. VFS Global in India is only the biometrics collection centre, which you visit after applying, not before. Australia grants a digital visa with no sticker in your passport.

Can my Australian relative sponsor my visit?

Yes — for family visits, a relative's invitation and financial support can strengthen the file, and the Department may consider the sponsor's finances. In some cases a sponsorship or bond arrangement applies. The host's details must match the rest of your application.

Do I need to disclose a previous visa refusal from another country?

Yes. Australia requires your full visa history, and an undisclosed refusal — from any country — is a serious problem in its own right. Disclose it and address it; concealment does far more damage than the original refusal.

What is condition 8503, No Further Stay?

It bars you from applying for most other visas while in Australia — you must depart before applying for a new one. It is commonly attached to visitor visas, so read your grant letter carefully and plan your dates around it.

Can SureshotVisa guarantee my Australia visitor visa?

No — the decision rests with the Department of Home Affairs. What we do is build the genuine-visitor case, the funds and the ties as strong and consistent as possible, so the officer has no gap to score against you.
