Belgium Schengen Visa Refused from India — Box 2 + 12 + 13 Pattern Explained
Belgium has one of the highest Schengen refusal rates from India. Box 2 alone or the 2+12+13 combination dominates Indian files. We've handled both.

Real Belgium Refusal Letter
Real Belgian refusal letter (page 1 of 2). Personal information redacted. The 2 + 12 + 13 combination is the most damaging Belgian refusal pattern — vague purpose, plus doubts about document authenticity, plus doubts about intention to leave.

What This Rejection Means
Belgian refusal letters come on a 13-box trilingual (English/French/Dutch) Annex VI form. Two refusal patterns dominate Indian applications: a single Box 2 ('purpose not provided') for fixable cases, and the Box 2 + 12 + 13 combination for credibility-cascade cases. Box 12 is doubts about authenticity of supporting documents. Box 13 is doubts about your intention to leave the territory before the visa expires. When all three boxes land at once, the consular officer is signalling that the file as a whole did not add up.
Common Causes of This Rejection
- 1Vague or generic itinerary — 'tourism in Europe' instead of a day-by-day plan
- 2Belgium not your main destination but applied through the Belgian consulate
- 3Hotel booking only in Brussels, but invitation letter from another country
- 4First-time international traveller applying directly for Belgium with no prior travel history
- 5Bank statements showing recent unexplained deposits with no ITR trail
- 6Single applicant or no spouse/children/property in India to anchor 'intent to leave'
Belgium Appeal Procedure
Deadline
30 days from the date the refusal decision was notified
Where Filed
Council for Alien Law Litigation (Conseil du Contentieux des Étrangers / Raad voor Vreemdelingenbetwistingen), Brussels
Language
French or Dutch (depending on the embassy's notification language)
Belgian appeals require local legal representation and must be filed in the embassy's notification language. For most Indian applicants, reapplying with a corrected file is the standard path.
How to Fix It (Reapplication Strategy)
- Build a precise day-by-day itinerary: dates, cities, hotels, intercity travel — Belgium must be the main destination
- Replace any document that triggered Box 12 (authenticity doubts) with notarised, registered, independently-verifiable equivalents
- Document strong ties to India: long-employment NOC, property papers, dependent family, ongoing studies
- Build a clean travel record on UAE, Thailand, Singapore, or a UK visit visa first, before reapplying for Belgium
- Submit a cover letter that names the previous Belgian refusal, identifies which boxes were ticked, and shows document-by-document what has changed
- Have a coordinated CA + lawyer + writer team review the file — a 2 + 12 + 13 case can't be fixed by any single specialist
Reapplication Timeline
No mandatory waiting period. A Belgium 2+12+13 refusal needs at least 6–10 weeks of file rebuilding before reapplication has real odds. Single Box 2 cases can be turned around in 4–6 weeks.
Expert Advice
If only Box 2 is ticked, the fix is concrete: build a clean itinerary, hotel bookings, return flight, day-by-day plan, and cover letter. If 2+12+13 are stacked, treat it as a full file rebuild — every doubt-triggering document must be replaced and your intent-to-leave evidence has to be airtight.
