Do I really have to pay tuition before getting the visa?
Yes — the Embassy requires the stamped tuition receipt in the D-visa file. Budget for this before you apply, and confirm the university's refund policy in case of refusal.
Is Bulgaria in Schengen now?
Yes — a full Schengen member since January 2025, so your Bulgarian residence lets you travel the area within the 90/180-day rule.
Can I work part-time?
Yes — up to 20 hours/week during the academic year once you hold the residence permit, without a separate work permit.
What about medicine in English?
Sofia, Plovdiv and Varna medical universities teach in English at roughly €8,000–9,000/year; admission still needs the Ministry-certified letter like any other program.
