€8,000–18,000/yr (≈₹7.2–16.2L) for non-EU students; 50–100% early-bird scholarships are common; fees are moving toward full-cost from August 2026. Applications are filed from India via Online at EnterFinland (enterfinland.fi) + identity/biometrics at a VFS Global Finland centre in India — and everything from admission to the visa appointment can be handled for you, end to end.

The money, honestly

What you spend.
What simply stays yours.

Most agents blur these two numbers together. The visa asks you to show funds — that money remains yours to live on in Finland. What you actually spend on the visa process is far smaller.

You spend

visa process, one-time
  • Migri permit fee (online)≈₹54,000
  • VFS Global service fee (biometrics)≈₹2,500–4,000
  • Private health insurance, year 1≈₹13,500–31,500 (€150–350)
  • Attested copies, photos, courier≈₹2,000–6,000
  • Travel to VFS centre≈₹2,000–6,000
Realistic total≈₹75,000–1,00,000

Visa process typically under ₹2 lakh

stays your money

≈₹8.6 lakh shown per year

€800/month = €9,600/year in your own account (+ tuition covered if not yet paid); less if the institution provides board/lodging with proof

Bank balance in the student's OWN name — no blocked account; Migri rejects unexplained lump-sum deposits and money sitting only in a parent's account, so transfer early and keep the source trail

This is proof of funds, not a fee — you live on it in Finland.

Excludes tuition (₹7.2–16.2L/yr before scholarship), the ≈₹8.6L shown as funds (stays in your account), flights and living costs. Finland's permit fee itself is now the single biggest process cost after the Jan 2026 hike.

Step by step

Admission to boarding,
one clear path.

  1. Step 1

    Get admitted via Studyinfo.fi

Apply in the November–January joint window for the autumn intake; accept the offer and pay tuition (or lock your scholarship) — the payment proof goes into the permit file.

  2. Step 2

Season money in your own account

€9,600 must sit in YOUR bank account. Move it early with a clear source trail — sudden deposits are Finland's classic refusal trigger.

  3. Step 3

    Buy compliant insurance

Private health insurance with ≥€40,000 medical cover for degrees of 2+ years (≥€120,000 if under 2 years), excess capped at €300.

  4. Step 4

    Apply on EnterFinland

Complete the OLE_OPI application online, upload documents and pay the €600 fee (₹≈54,000 — it is spent, not refundable on refusal).

  5. Step 5

    Give biometrics at VFS

Prove your identity at a VFS Global Finland centre in India within 3 months of applying — the clock only starts after this visit.

  6. Step 6

    Migri decision

Track on EnterFinland; typical decisions take 2 weeks–2 months. Degree students get a permit covering the whole programme (continuous B permit).

  7. Step 7

    Collect card & fly

The residence permit card is delivered via the mission/VFS; you travel to Finland with it — no separate student visa exists.

Learn from refusals

Why Finland refuses student files

Funds not credible: money not in the student's own account, sudden unexplained deposits, or balance dipping below the requirement

Doubts about genuine student intent — weak study history, course mismatch or vague plans in the application

Insurance that doesn't meet Migri's cover/excess rules, or tuition/scholarship documentation that doesn't add up

Finland student-visa FAQs

Why is Finland's fee so high now?

Migri raised the first study-permit fee to €600 online / €750 paper from 1 January 2026 (it was €450). It is a processing fee — spent money, not refundable if refused.

Is the €9,600 blocked like Germany's account?

No. Finland has no blocked account — the €9,600 simply sits in your own bank account and remains yours to live on. Migri only checks that it is genuinely your money.

Can my parents just show their balance?

No — Migri wants the funds in the student's own name. Transfer early, keep the source documented, and avoid last-minute lump-sum deposits.

How long is the permit and what about after graduation?

Degree students get one permit covering the whole programme. After graduating you can apply for a job-search permit of up to 2 years, any time within 5 years of graduation.
