Get admission from an Icelandic university
University of Iceland's non-EU deadline is 1 February for the autumn intake; private universities have their own dates.
Step 2
Assemble the paper file
Printed signed form, passport copy, photo, enrolment confirmation, funds proof, Iceland-valid health insurance, apostilled police clearance.
Step 3
Pay ISK 70,000 and courier the file to Iceland
Send to the Directorate of Immigration (Dalvegur 18, Kópavogur) — or have the university/representative submit; aim to beat the ~1 June student deadline.

Directorate processes the application
Respond quickly to any document requests; incomplete files are the main cause of delay.
Step 5
Collect the entry D-visa in India
On approval, the Directorate sends a D-visa authorisation to the Embassy of Iceland, New Delhi — lodge your passport through a VFS Global centre for the entry visa.
Step 6
Travel and complete formalities in Iceland
Register your legal domicile, give biometrics for the residence card, and apply for the student work permit if you plan to work.
