Get admission from an MFHEA-registered institution
The enrolment letter must state the MFHEA-registered name, exact course title, MQF level, ECTS, duration, weekly contact hours and lecture address — incomplete letters stall files.

Book VFS at least 9 weeks early
Identità's checklist makes the 9-weeks-before-course-start rule explicit; the VFS appointment letter itself is a required document.

Prepare the funds pack
3-month bank statement + bank certificate showing at least 75% of minimum wage per study month (≈€745/month), or the full sponsor pack (statement, declaration, ID).

Insurance, flights, first 14 nights
€30,000 study-valid insurance (≥91 consecutive days for MQF 5+), full flight itinerary arriving no more than 2 weeks before the course, and accommodation in your own name for the first 14 nights.

Pay €100 by card, give biometrics, submit everything in English (or via Identità's authorised translators only).

For courses over 90 days, apply for the study residence permit after arrival — the Jobsplus work permit is issued with it, and students on MQRIC-recognised higher courses can work from year one (others only after 3 months in Malta).

Is Malta really English-speaking?
Yes — English is an official language and most degree programmes are taught in it. The visa checklist has no IELTS rule; institutions set their own language tests.
When must I apply for the Malta student visa?
At least 9 weeks before your course starts — that deadline is printed on Identità's own checklist, and the VFS appointment letter is itself a required document.
How much money do I show?

Can I work while studying in Malta?
Up to 20 hours a week, and you need a work permit issued through Jobsplus.
