Croatia Tourist Visa from India 2026: Adriatic File

Forty-five days. Plan the summer around that number.

Most Schengen embassies quote 15 days and usually deliver. Croatia is different, and says so openly: the standard processing time is 45 calendar days from the day your file reaches the Embassy.

It gets stricter. Missions may decline to accept an application submitted with less than 45 days left before the travel date. So the traveller who walks into VFS in mid-May holding June ferry dreams is not late — they are, by the Embassy's own arithmetic, potentially not even accepted at the counter.

The good news is equally concrete: applications open up to 6 months before travel. That produces a simple tide table for the 2026 season:

The "sensible latest" column already includes a buffer over the bare 45-day minimum, because peak-season files move slower and VFS appointment slots in busy cities are their own queue. Every rupee Croatia collects before the Adriatic appears

The compulsory total for one adult is therefore ₹12,753 — ₹10,200 to the Embassy, ₹2,553 to VFS — before insurance and the rest of the real-world bill. How the application actually moves

1. Fill the online form at crovisa.mvep.hr — in English or Croatian. Print it, then sign in field 37 and on the last page. (For minors, a parent or legal guardian signs.) Unsigned forms are the most avoidable incomplete-file finding there is.
2. Book a VFS appointment. Croatia, unlike some of its Schengen neighbours, has a proper VFS network in India — eleven cities.
3. Submit in person + biometrics. Fingerprints and a live photo at the counter, unless you gave fingerprints for a Schengen visa within the last 59 months. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprinting.
4. The Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in New Delhi decides. VFS is logistics; the decision authority is the Embassy. You may be called for a personal interview, and additional documents, certified translations or apostilles can be requested.

What a Dubrovnik-to-Split itinerary must prove on paper

Croatia's checklist has a distinctly coastal personality. It does not just ask where you are staying — it asks for the phone number of every place you sleep.

Three requirements do the heavy lifting, and an island-hopping itinerary must satisfy all of them:

Accommodation, with a Croatian phone number attached

The rule as written: hotel or booking confirmation, a paid tourist-package certificate, or a private accommodation booking — with full Croatian phone contact and address for every stay. A day-to-day itinerary that matches the bookings

A detailed day-by-day plan with ensured accommodation for the entire stay is mandatory, not decorative. If the plan says Hvar on Tuesday, a booking must say Hvar on Tuesday. The ferry legs between islands belong in the plan too — they are the connective tissue that makes the file read as a real holiday.

Transport and the return — reservations only

Return travel reservation (air, bus or boat); if you are driving, the car's registration card and your driving licence. And the standing Schengen commandment: reservations, never purchased tickets, until the visa is in the passport. Croatia adds a sharper edge to it — see the buoy below.

The rest of the manifest

• Passport — issued within 10 years, valid 3+ months beyond departure from Schengen, at least 2 blank pages back-to-back, no handwritten alterations. Photocopies of the front and last page, all used pages, plus your last two old passports.
• Two photos — 35×45 mm, white or light background, neutral expression, head filling roughly 70–80% of the frame.
• Travel medical insurance — minimum €30,000, covering the entire stay, and — Croatia-specific — from an insurer on Croatia's pre-approved list for India. A generic policy from an off-list insurer fails the file even at the right cover amount.
• Money and status — original bank statements for 3 months, stamped and signed; income-tax returns for 3 years; employer letter with leave approval, or company registration papers, or student ID with a leave letter, as your profile requires. Supporting documents must be no older than 6 months.
• Sailing your own charter? The checklist has a line most countries don't: proof of ownership or lease of a boat or yacht, if applicable. The Adriatic file, true to form.

The refusal patterns mirror the checklist: insurance off-list or under-cover, funds that don't credibly cover the trip, weak ties to India, an itinerary where Croatia is not genuinely the main destination, and incomplete files — the Embassy is not obliged to request missing papers before refusing. Cancelled bookings after submission have their own line on that list. Every one of these is avoidable in January; several are unfixable in May.
