The Easiest Schengen Visas from India in 2026 — Approval Rates Ranked
Last reviewed: 14 May 2026 · Verified against current VFS Global India fees
Indian applicants are approved ~96% of the time for Switzerland, ~77% for Poland. The 2024 EU Commission data, ranked, with a decision tree for your first Schengen.

Every visa-agent blog tells you Switzerland is "easy". The EU Commission's 2024 statistics tell a more nuanced story. Below are the actual approval rates for Indian applicants across every Schengen country — ranked, tiered, and paired with a quick decision guide for your first Schengen.
Where this data comes from
Every Schengen member publishes the number of visas it issued, refused, and marked "not eligible" at every one of its consulates worldwide. The European Commission aggregates this and releases an annual statistics report. The numbers above are the 2024 figures for visas filed at consulates physically located in India — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru.
This isn't a perfect proxy for "easy". A consulate that refuses 5% of files isn't necessarily friendlier than one that refuses 15% — it might just be attracting cleaner applications. But for an Indian applicant trying to enter Europe for the first time, the ranking is a useful starting filter.
These seven consulates issued visas to roughly 19 out of every 20 Indian applicants in 2024. If your travel history is thin and you want the gentlest introduction to Schengen, start here.
Nine consulates clustered between 85 % and 92 %. These are the workhorses of Indian Schengen volume — Germany, France, Netherlands process tens of thousands of Indian files a year. Slightly higher refusal rates, slightly more scrutiny.
Seven consulates below the 85 % line. None of these are unrecoverable — they just demand a stronger file. If your travel history is genuinely thin, treat them as the second or third Schengen application, not the first.
The catch: easy approval ≠ easy visa
The approval rate tells you what happens when the file is clean. It doesn't tell you how much work that file is.

The honest answer
If we had to pick one country to call "easiest" for a first-time Indian applicant in 2026, it'd be Greece. The combination of a near-95 % approval rate, a noticeably lighter checklist than Switzerland or Italy, and a consulate that processes Indian files quickly is hard to beat. Hungary is a close second.
But the better question is rarely "which is easiest" — it's "which fits what I'm actually doing." A Schengen visa is good across all 29 member states once issued. You can apply through Greece and spend three days in Athens followed by ten in Italy. The trick is filing through the embassy that matches your main destination (the country where you'll spend the most days), and picking the one whose process suits the file you can credibly put together.

Methodology: approval rates are computed as visas issued ÷ (visas issued + refusals) using EU Commission Schengen short-stay statistics for the 2024 calendar year, filtered to consulates physically located in India. The 2025 numbers are released by the Commission around February 2026 — we'll update this page when they drop.
