A honeymoon that isn't in everyone's photos

Some couples want Paris. Others want the version of Europe that still feels like a secret — and Slovenia is that country.

It is a full Schengen member, so the Type C tourist visa opens all 29 Schengen countries for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. But the reason to come is Slovenia itself. The country is compact — Ljubljana, Lake Bled, the Postojna Caves, and the Piran coast all sit within two to three hours of one another — so a honeymoon here is unhurried by design. What two visas actually cost

Romance ends at the fee table, and that's fine — this is where being precise pays off. Slovenia's Embassy publishes the INR fee monthly, so the exact rupee amount shifts a little through the year.

For a couple, that's roughly ₹20,000 in visa costs before flights — and because the Slovenian Embassy adjusts the euro fee into rupees monthly, a 5–10% swing across the year is normal. Check the Embassy or VFS site the week you pay. Nothing here is refundable if a visa is refused, and family members of EU/EEA/Swiss nationals are exempt from the Embassy fee. Documents, and the two-passport details

Slovenia runs the standard Schengen Annex II checklist through VFS Global India, for the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in New Delhi. Each of you files a full set — there's no "joint" application — so gather two of everything:

• Passports — valid 3 months beyond the stay, 2 blank pages, issued within the last 10 years, with old passports attached;
• Application form + one photo each — 35–40 mm, white background, taken within 6 months;
• Cover letter and itinerary — a travel-agency certificate for an organised trip, or a detailed self-planned day-by-day plan; a honeymoon reads as a genuine leisure trip when the itinerary is specific;
• Accommodation and transport — hotel or rental bookings for the whole stay and return flight reservations, not purchased tickets;
• Travel medical insurance — €30,000 minimum, Schengen-wide, covering emergency medical expenses and repatriation for the full trip;
• Financial proof — original 3-month bank statements, stamped and signed, meeting the €70/day expectation, plus ITRs for the last 2 assessment years.

One tender-but-practical note: if you've just married and your spouse's name isn't yet endorsed in the passport, carry your marriage certificate — it clears up relationship questions before they're asked. When to apply, and the main-destination rule

Apply at least 15 days before travel and up to 6 months ahead; 4–6 weeks out is the sweet spot. Standard processing is 15 calendar days from when the Slovenian Embassy receives your complete file, extendable to 30–45 days if more documents or an interview are requested — though most couples are never interviewed.

And the rule that decides whether Slovenia is even the right consulate: apply here only if Slovenia is your main destination, meaning where you spend the most nights. A honeymoon that's mostly Slovenia with a day in Venice or Vienna applies to Slovenia; one that's mostly Italy applies to Italy. Plan the nights honestly, then choose the consulate — an itinerary that contradicts your chosen country is a listed refusal reason.
