Quick answer: For a Spain tourist visa from India you apply for a Schengen Type C (short-stay) visa through BLS Internationalnot VFS Global, which is the single most common mistake applicants make. Book at blsspainglobal.com, submit at a BLS Spain centre (New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Chandigarh, Jalandhar or Puducherry), and expect the government visa fee of about INR 9,599 for adults plus a separate BLS service fee of around INR 1,802.

Does Spain use VFS or BLS in India?

Spain does not use VFS Global. The Spanish Embassy and Consulate in India have appointed BLS International as their official outsourcing partner for visa applications. This trips up a lot of first-time applicants, because most other Schengen countries (Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland and more) do run through VFS. If you turn up at a VFS centre expecting to file a Spain visa, you will be turned away.

Common mistake: Booking a VFS appointment for Spain. Always book through the official BLS Spain portal at blsspainglobal.com. If a website or agent tells you Spain goes through VFS, that is a red flag.

Everything else about the visa follows the standard Schengen rules — same EUR 90 government fee, same 90-days-in-180 stay limit, same harmonised document list. It is only the application centre operator that is different.

Who needs a Spain Schengen visa?

Indian passport holders need a visa to enter Spain for tourism, visiting family or friends, business or any short stay. A Spain Schengen Type C visa lets you stay in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period.

Which country should you apply to? Apply to Spain only if Spain is your main destination (where you spend the most nights) or your first point of entry into the Schengen Area if your nights are split evenly. If you are spending more time in France or Italy, apply to that country instead — applying to the wrong country is a valid ground for refusal.

BLS Spain centres in India (2026)

BLS International operates Spain visa application centres across the following cities. You choose your centre based on your jurisdiction (see the next section), not simply the nearest city.

North & East

New Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Jalandhar

West

Mumbai, Ahmedabad

South

Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Puducherry

For centre addresses, opening hours and how these compare with VFS locations for other countries, see our guide to VFS visa application centres in India — just remember Spain itself is handled by BLS, not VFS.

Which mission covers your city? (Jurisdiction split)

Spain has two decision-making missions in India, and your application is routed to the one that covers your state of residence. Booking under the wrong jurisdiction leads to your appointment being cancelled, so check this carefully before you book.

Decision-making missionCovers (broadly)
Embassy of Spain, New DelhiNorth & East India — Delhi NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, J&K, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, the North-East and other northern/eastern states
Consulate General of Spain, MumbaiWest & South India — Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and other western/southern states

State-to-mission mapping can be adjusted by the Spanish authorities. The BLS Spain portal shows the correct jurisdiction when you select your city of residence during booking — always confirm it there before paying.

Spain tourist visa fees from India (2026)

There are two charges: the government visa fee (set in euros, collected in INR at the mission's exchange rate) and a separate BLS service fee. Optional add-ons like courier, premium lounge and SMS are extra.

ChargeAdult (12+)Child 6–12Under 6
Government visa fee (EUR)EUR 90EUR 45Free
Government visa fee (approx INR)~INR 9,599~INR 4,799Free
BLS service fee (approx)~INR 1,802~INR 1,802~INR 1,802

The EUR 90 / EUR 45 / free-under-6 government fee has been uniform across all Schengen countries since 11 June 2024. The INR figures move slightly with the exchange rate, so treat them as close estimates and confirm the exact amount on the BLS payment screen.

Tip: Visa fees, once paid, are non-refundable even if the visa is refused. Get your file right the first time rather than reapplying.

Documents required for a Spain tourist visa

Spain follows the harmonised Schengen tourist checklist. Prepare the following, and carry originals plus one clear photocopy of each.

Core documents (everyone)

Application form

Completed and signed Schengen visa application form.

Passport

Issued within the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months beyond your return, with at least 2 blank pages. Plus a copy of the bio/address page.

Photos

Two recent biometric photos, 35×45 mm, white background, ~70–80% face coverage, not older than 6 months.

Cover letter

Personal letter explaining your trip, dates and itinerary.

Flight & itinerary

Round-trip flight reservation and a day-by-day travel plan.

Accommodation

Confirmed hotel bookings for every city, or a host's invitation and proof of stay.

Travel insurance

Valid across all Schengen countries for the full trip, minimum EUR 30,000 medical coverage.

Financial proof

Personal bank statements for the last 3–6 months, bank-stamped (passbook copies not accepted).

Proof of employment / status

Applicant typeAdd these documents
Salaried employeeLast 3 months' payslips, employment/appointment letter, leave-sanction letter, ITR or Form 16 for the last two years
Business owner / self-employedCompany registration and GST certificate, ITR for the last two years, business bank statements
RetiredPension statements for the last 3 months and/or proof of income from property or investments
StudentEnrolment certificate, No Objection Certificate from the school/university, and bank statements
Minor (under 18)Birth certificate, both parents' passport copies, notarised parental consent if travelling without one or both parents

Warning: Bank passbook photocopies are not accepted — you need proper bank-stamped statements. Weak or unexplained financial documents are a leading cause of Schengen refusals.

The mission always reserves the right to ask for extra documents, and submitting the listed documents does not by itself guarantee a visa. Never submit fake or "arranged" bank balances or forged bookings — a detection means a refusal on your record that follows you across all Schengen countries.

Appointment, biometrics and processing time

Here is the typical journey from booking to passport collection:

1. Book online

Create an appointment on blsspainglobal.com under the correct jurisdiction and city.

2. Attend in person

Submit documents and give biometrics (fingerprints + photo) at the BLS centre.

3. Biometrics reuse

If you gave Schengen biometrics in the last 59 months, they may be reused — but the mission can still ask you to appear.

4. Decision & return

Collect your passport in person or by courier once a decision is made.

Processing time: Standard Schengen short-stay processing is up to 15 working days from the day the application reaches the mission (excluding the day of submission and courier transit). In peak summer season it can take longer, so apply early.

When to apply: You can apply up to 6 months before travel, and no later than 15 working days before your intended departure. Booking flights and hotels 6–8 weeks out is the safe window.
