Switzerland Tourist Visa Cost from India 2026 — Every Rupee

Three prices, one trip. People confuse all of them.

When a client asks us "what does the Switzerland visa cost?", we have learned to ask a boring question back: which of the three numbers do you mean?

Number one is the consular fee — what the Embassy of Switzerland charges to examine your file. For an adult, that is €90, collected in rupees: ₹9,600 at the current published rate. This is the only figure that is properly called "the visa fee". It is also, as you are about to see, nowhere near what you will actually spend.

Number two is the counter total — the consular fee plus the VFS Global service charge plus whatever optional services you tick, knowingly or otherwise, at the counter. This is the number on the receipt in your hand when you leave the visa application centre.

Number three is the trip cost — flights, hotels, the ₹850 hot chocolate in Zermatt. That one is between you and your conscience. This audit stops at the Swiss border.

Most of the confusion — and most of the overpaying — happens because guides quote number one, agents quote something near number three, and nobody itemises number two. So let us itemise it. The itemised fee table, as VFS actually charges it

Two of these lines are compulsory for an adult. The rest are optional — a word the counter does not always pronounce clearly.

So the honest baseline is ₹12,290 per adult — ₹9,600 to the Embassy, ₹2,690 to VFS. A child of eight costs ₹7,490. A toddler costs ₹2,690, because the consular fee is waived but VFS still processes the file.

The hidden line-items VFS never prints

The counter receipt is not the whole bill. Four more entries belong in your ledger, and the checklist quietly requires three of them.

Travel medical insurance — compulsory, and inspected

A Schengen file without insurance is not a weak file; it is an incomplete one. The policy must cover at least €30,000, be valid across all Schengen states, and cover your entire stay. For a typical trip this runs ₹1,500–₹3,000 per traveller, varying with age and duration. The photograph — small line, strict spec

One recent photo: 35–40 mm wide, colour, light background, taken within the last six months. Your local studio's rate is your business; the spec is the Embassy's. A charming photo from your cousin's wedding two years ago is a ₹0 line-item that can hold up a ₹12,290 one.

Reservations — flights and hotels, held but not bought

The file needs a return-flight reservation (not a purchased ticket) and confirmed hotel bookings for the full stay — Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation letters are accepted. Do not pay for actual flights before the decision. Use refundable fares, or a flight-itinerary reservation service, which typically costs ₹2,000–₹3,000. That is the correct price for keeping your money out of the fire.

The paperwork run — the column only you can fill

Bank statements for the last three months, on A4, with the bank's original stamp and signature (some branches bill a small charge for stamped printouts — ask yours). Three years of ITRs, printed. Photocopies of everything. And the trip to one of the 13 VFS centres that take Switzerland files — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Jaipur, Kochi or Goa — because biometrics are captured in person. Theory is cheap. Here is the ledger for two adults filing tourist files at VFS Chandigarh, taking the sensible options and none of the silly ones.

Call it roughly ₹32,000–₹36,000 for two people before a single actual flight is bought — about two and a half times the "₹9,600 visa fee" a search result will quote you, twice over. Neither number is wrong. One is just a line; the other is the bill.

One more figure belongs beside the money: time. The Embassy takes 15 calendar days from receiving a complete file, longer in peak season or if further documents or an interview are requested. The application window opens 180 days before departure; submit at least two to three weeks ahead. Time, unlike the courier fee, cannot be paid at the counter — Switzerland offers no fast-track for standard tourist files.
