Rules that apply to every China visa type — worth a quick read so nothing trips up your file.
- 1China is NOT a Schengen country — a Chinese visa is required for Indian passport holders and does not cover any other country.
- 2Original passport with at least 6 months' remaining validity and more than 2 blank visa pages (front & back). For a multiple-entry visa, passport validity should cover the visa validity plus your stay. Carry a photocopy of the passport data page (and the photo page if separate). Old/expired passports from the last 5 years are required.
- 3Photo: 33×48 mm, colour, plain white background, taken within the last 6 months. Digital e-photo for upload must be 354–420 px wide × 472–560 px high, JPEG, 40 KB–120 KB. Head fully shown, no hat/cap, no coloured glasses, neutral expression, mouth closed; the face/head must occupy the central area as per the official photo specification.
- 4Apply through the Chinese Visa Application Service Center (CVASC) in your jurisdiction (Delhi / Mumbai / Kolkata / Chennai). The COVA form is completed online; submission and the actual photo are IN PERSON.
- 5Jurisdiction matters: apply at the CVASC that covers your state of residence. Applying at the wrong centre can lead to refusal of acceptance.
- 6Bank statement (where required) must show a balance of at least ₹1,00,000 maintained consistently for the past 6 months — temporary or sudden deposits are not accepted, and inconsistent balances can lead to non-acceptance.
- 7The invitation letter may be a fax, photocopy or computer printout. The consular officer may request additional documents, supplementary materials, or an interview.
- 8All information must be true and correct — any false, misleading or incomplete information may result in visa denial or refusal of entry into China.
- 9If you were once a Chinese citizen and now hold a foreign passport, provide your previous Chinese passport / previous Chinese visa copies (and an official name-change document if your name differs).

Visa fees are collected on behalf of the Chinese Embassy and the total payable = visa fee + CVASC service fee, paid in cash or by Demand Draft at the centre. The CVASC application service fee is non-refundable. For express service (4th-working-day collection), submit before 12 PM and collect after 3 PM on the 4th working day. The fee schedule is adjusted every quarter in line with the USD/INR exchange rate, so confirm the current amounts at the centre before applying. The consular officer decides the validity, duration of stay and number of entries based on your profile.

+Who has to sign my China business invitation, and what must it say?
The inviting company signs it, on its letterhead, naming you personally, the exact dates, the purpose of the meetings and — crucially — who is paying for what. Officers verify these: a letter with no signatory title, no company registration detail and no reachable phone number is worse than no letter, because it fails a verification call. Your own side matters just as much: a leave sanction or board resolution, your employment or directorship proof, and a travel history that fits the seniority the letter claims for you.
+Can I attend meetings, sign contracts or get paid on this visa?
Meetings, negotiations, conferences, trade fairs and training you attend are normally fine. What is not permitted is gainful employment — being paid by an entity in China, or doing work that a local would otherwise be hired for, even unpaid in some categories. That line is where business visas get refused and, worse, where they get cancelled at the border. If your trip involves anything close to it, tell us the actual plan and we will tell you which route it needs.
+How long does a China China Business Visa take, start to finish?
Three things sit between today and your trip: preparing the file properly, waiting for an appointment, and the mission's own processing. China currently states Regular: 6th working day; Express: 4th working day (extra fee) for the decision itself. We control the first, which is usually days. The middle depends on slot releases. The third is entirely the mission's and no consultant can shorten it — anyone telling you otherwise is selling something they cannot deliver. Tell us your travel date and we will tell you honestly whether it is realistic.

Most of it is not ours. The China government fee (currently ₹2,900) goes to the mission and the visa-centre fee goes to VFS — both charged to you at cost, never marked up, and shown as separate lines on one GST invoice in the registered company name.
