One honest rule up front, because it decides where you apply: the Czech Republic should be your main destination — the country where you spend the most nights — or your first point of entry on a multi-country route. Two things first-timers miss. One: the ₹2,156 service charge is paid at booking, not at the counter — keep the card ready when you reserve the slot. Two: nothing here is refundable if the visa is refused, so the cheapest strategy is a clean file the first time.
Beyond the counter, budget for travel insurance (roughly ₹1,500–₹3,000 for a typical trip) and note the Embassy's own expectation on funds: around ₹70,000–₹1,00,000 per traveller for a 7-day trip visible in your bank account. Four rules that catch first-timers
The no-glasses photo rule
The Embassy of the Czech Republic in New Delhi has a specific instruction: photographs with eyewear are not acceptable at VFS centres. Even if you've worn glasses in every photo since school — take them off for this one. You need two recent photos, 35–40 mm wide, white background, taken within the last 6 months, face filling 70–80% of the frame.
The A4 bank statement rule
Your last 3 months of bank statements must be original, on A4 paper, with the bank's stamp and signature. Netbanking PDF printouts without a stamp get files rejected. Add your ITR acknowledgements for the last 2 assessment years and you're covered on paper.
The 15-day rule
Tourist applications must be submitted at least 15 calendar days before travel — the Embassy simply doesn't process files that arrive closer to the date. You can apply up to 6 months early. Aim for 30+ days out: processing itself takes up to 15 calendar days from when the Embassy receives the file, and non-Delhi submissions add up to 3 working days in transit.
The reservation-not-ticket rule
The checklist asks for a confirmed return-flight reservation and hotel bookings for the whole stay — not purchased tickets. Six steps from zero to sticker
One Schengen Type C form from the VFS Czech Republic site covers all tourist files. Fill it in English, in block letters, and sign every page.
Passport (issued within 10 years, valid 3+ months beyond return, 2 blank pages), photos, cover letter, day-wise itinerary, flight reservation, hotel bookings, stamped A4 statements, ITRs, and €30,000 travel insurance.
At visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/cze — pay the ₹2,156 online to confirm. Twelve centres take Czech files, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, and Kochi.
Carry originals plus A4 photocopies, pay the ₹9,700 visa fee at submission, give fingerprints if required.
Up to 15 calendar days from Embassy receipt. Missed a document? You get exactly 3 working days to email it to the Embassy's designated address with the prescribed subject line — nothing else is accepted after submission.
Courier (₹840) or pickup. Then — and only then — buy the actual flights.
A day-wise itinerary is mandatory anyway — cities, hotels, transport between them. Write it honestly around what you'll really do and the same document does double duty: it satisfies the Embassy and becomes your actual trip plan.
