Cyprus issues its own short-stay (Category C) and long-stay (Type D) visas through the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus, New Delhi. Indian applicants apply via VFS in 14 cities — every file is forwarded to New Delhi for the final decision.

Rules that apply to every Cyprus visa type — worth a quick read so nothing trips up your file.
- 1Type D applications cannot be initiated from India. The Cypriot sponsor (employer / university / family) must first apply at the Cyprus Civil Registry and Migration Department.
- 2ALL documents — educational, personal, commercial — must be apostilled by the MEA, Government of India. Cyprus is a Hague Apostille signatory.
- 3VFS Global is the authorised partner for MEA apostille services in India. Visit www.vfsattestation.com or call 022-67866027 (9:30–13:00 and 14:00–17:00, except holidays).
- 4Bring originals + copies of every document. Visa officers may keep copies for verification.
- 5Family members of Cypriot, EU, or EFTA citizens follow a simplified process at the High Commission directly — not through VFS.
- 6Visa fees and service charges are non-refundable if the application is refused.
Who Can Apply
- Indian nationals with a confirmed Cypriot sponsor — employer (work), university (study), or qualifying family member
- Applicants whose Cypriot sponsor has secured initial approval from the Cyprus Civil Registry and Migration Department
- Applicants with all required documents apostilled by the MEA, Government of India
Not eligible under this visa:
- Anyone without a Cypriot sponsor or Migration Department approval — the Type D process MUST be initiated from the Cypriot side, not from India
- Short-term travellers (≤90 days) — apply for a Tourist or appropriate Short-Stay visa instead

Cypriot sponsor initiates the permit
Your sponsor in Cyprus (employer, university, or family member) applies for the underlying permit at the Cyprus Civil Registry and Migration Department. This step happens entirely in Cyprus.

Receive the Cypriot approval letter
Once the Migration Department approves, your sponsor sends you the approval letter. This is the trigger to begin the Indian-side paperwork.

Apostille all required documents (via VFS / MEA)
Use VFS Attestation services (www.vfsattestation.com or 022-67866027) to apostille educational, personal, and commercial documents. Cyprus is a Hague Apostille signatory.

Book your VFS appointment for the Type D entry visa
Once the Cypriot approval + apostilled documents are in hand, book the VFS appointment at any of the 14 Cyprus VFS centres in India.

Submit at VFS + pay fees
Attend in person with the Cypriot approval, apostilled documents, and the VFS service fee. Confirm the Type D visa fee with the High Commission at submission.
- 06
VFS forwards to the High Commission
Indian VFS centres forward the application on the 3rd working day. The High Commission in New Delhi processes the Type D entry visa.
- 07
Collect your passport + Type D visa
Once issued, collect from VFS or via courier-back. The Type D entry visa is valid for 90 days from issue — you must enter Cyprus within that window. Your underlying permit (work / study / residency) takes effect on arrival.
