Cyprus Long Stay Visa (Type D, >90 days) — Informational

The Cyprus Long Stay Visa (Type D) is required for stays exceeding 90 days — typically for work permits, study, family reunification, or residency. Important: the actual permit is initiated and approved BY the Cypriot sponsor (employer, university, family member) via the Cyprus Civil Registry and Migration Department. Once the Cypriot side approves, the applicant collects the Type D entry visa from the High Commission in New Delhi. Cyprus is a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention — all educational, personal, and commercial documents must be apostilled by the MEA, Government of India before submission.

SureshotVisa does NOT initiate Cyprus Type D applications — the work / study / family permit must first be approved by the Cypriot sponsor via the Cyprus Migration Department. Once the Cypriot-side approval is in hand, we can help with the Apostille (MEA), document preparation, and final entry-visa pickup at the High Commission in New Delhi. This page is informational. Contact us once you have the Cypriot approval to proceed.

Cyprus — EU member, but NOT yet Schengen

A Cyprus visa is national. It does not unlock Schengen — but a multi-entry Schengen visa unlocks Cyprus.

Cyprus issues its own short-stay (Category C) and long-stay (Type D) visas through the High Commission of the Republic of Cyprus, New Delhi. Indian applicants apply via VFS in 14 cities — every file is forwarded to New Delhi for the final decision.

Already hold a valid multi-entry Schengen visa?

You can enter Cyprus without a separate visa. Single-entry Schengen visas don't qualify — only multi-entry. Confirm validity dates before you fly.

🗺️ Step-by-Step Application Process

1

Cypriot sponsor initiates the permit

Your sponsor in Cyprus (employer, university, or family member) applies for the underlying permit at the Cyprus Civil Registry and Migration Department. This step happens entirely in Cyprus.

2

Receive the Cypriot approval letter

Once the Migration Department approves, your sponsor sends you the approval letter. This is the trigger to begin the Indian-side paperwork.

3

Apostille all required documents (via VFS / MEA)

Use VFS Attestation services (www.vfsattestation.com or 022-67866027) to apostille educational, personal, and commercial documents. Cyprus is a Hague Apostille signatory.

4

Book your VFS appointment for the Type D entry visa

Once the Cypriot approval + apostilled documents are in hand, book the VFS appointment at any of the 14 Cyprus VFS centres in India.

5

Submit at VFS + pay fees

Attend in person with the Cypriot approval, apostilled documents, and the VFS service fee. Confirm the Type D visa fee with the High Commission at submission.

6

VFS forwards to the High Commission

Indian VFS centres forward the application on the 3rd working day. The High Commission in New Delhi processes the Type D entry visa.

7

Collect your passport + Type D visa

Once issued, collect from VFS or via courier-back. The Type D entry visa is valid for 90 days from issue — you must enter Cyprus within that window. Your underlying permit (work / study / residency) takes effect on arrival.

We're actively building per-visa quizzes. For now, the best way to assess your eligibility for Cyprus Long Stay Visa (Type D, >90 days) — Informational is a free 1-on-1 consultation with our team.

💡 Pro Tips

  • Don't wait for VFS — start your apostille paperwork the moment your Cypriot sponsor confirms they're filing. Apostille turnarounds are 2–4 weeks.
  • Get every educational document apostilled — even ones you think won't be needed. Cyprus migration is strict.
  • Confirm the visa fee directly with the High Commission before booking VFS — Type D fees aren't always on the public VFS site.
  • If your sponsor is delayed in Cyprus, your Indian-side timeline slips with them. Build in 2–3 months buffer total.
  • Family of Cypriot / EU / EFTA citizens follow a simpler process directly at the High Commission — not through VFS. Confirm your category before applying.

Common Rejection Reasons

  • 1.No approval letter from the Cyprus Civil Registry and Migration Department
  • 2.Documents not apostilled by MEA, Government of India
  • 3.Educational certificates submitted in original Hindi / regional language without English translations
  • 4.Mismatch between sponsor's approval and the visa sub-category applied for

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Cyprus Long Stay (Type D) process work?+
Type D applications start in Cyprus, not India. Your Cypriot sponsor (employer / university / family) applies at the Cyprus Civil Registry and Migration Department. Once they approve, you collect the Type D entry visa at the High Commission in New Delhi via VFS. SureshotVisa helps with the India-side steps once the Cypriot approval is in hand.
Why does Cyprus require Apostille from MEA?+
Cyprus is a signatory to the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961. As a member, Cyprus requires foreign documents to be apostilled by the originating country's designated authority — for India, that's the Ministry of External Affairs. VFS Global is the authorised partner for MEA apostille services.
How long does the Cyprus Type D visa take?+
The Cypriot-side permit can take 4–12 weeks depending on the sub-category. The Indian-side entry visa, once the Cypriot approval is in, takes 10–15 working days at the High Commission in New Delhi. Total timeline 2–4 months from start to passport-in-hand.
What documents need apostilling?+
All educational, personal (birth / marriage certificates), and commercial documents you submit. The full list depends on your sub-category (work / study / family reunification). VFS Attestation can advise document-by-document at booking.
Can SureshotVisa help with Cyprus Type D Long Stay?+
Partially. We don't initiate the Cypriot-side permit (your sponsor in Cyprus does). Once that approval is in hand, we handle the MEA apostille, document preparation, VFS submission, and the entry-visa pickup. Book a consultation to start once you have the Cypriot approval.
