France runs the online-first model: the whole application is completed on france-visas.gouv.fr and the VFS visit is only for biometrics and handing over the printed file, so an incomplete online record cannot be rescued at the counter. Use the Visa Wizard on that site first; it names your exact visa type and produces the personalised document list the officer will check against. The adult fee is about ₹10,100 (children 6 to 12 about ₹5,100, under 6 free) and changes with the consular exchange rate. Standard processing is 15 calendar days, extendable to 30 to 45 where the consulate consults another Schengen state. Reservations are enough for the file.

The visa fee in INR is set by the French Consulate exchange rate and changes periodically — always confirm the live amount on france-visas.gouv.fr and the VFS Global France India page before paying. The visa fee and VFS service charge are payable per applicant. Visa fee, service charge and any value-added service fees are NON-REFUNDABLE regardless of the visa decision. Optional value-added services (courier, SMS, premium lounge, prime-time collection) do not affect the decision or turnaround time.

Yes — travel medical insurance is compulsory for every Schengen visa. It must provide a minimum of €30,000 cover, be valid across all Schengen states, and cover the entire duration of your trip including emergency medical repatriation.
Children under 12 do not give fingerprints but must still attend the VFS appointment in person for the photo. Children under 6 are exempt from the visa fee; children aged 6–12 pay the reduced €45 fee.
