Italy splits visa decisions across 4 Indian consulates — New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru — each with slightly different document checklists, fees rounding, and processing nuances. The requirements listed on this page match the New Delhi (North) jurisdiction.
New Delhi (North) jurisdiction covers
Italy's short internship visa, the Tirocinio Formazione C, is fee-exempt: only the VFS service charge of ₹631 applies. It covers internships of up to 90 days, and the commonest refusal is a course that runs longer, which needs the Internship D visa instead. Educational documents must be apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs, and health insurance for the stay must be evidenced. Standard processing is 15 working days, extendable to 45, but the Embassy can suspend the evaluation for verification for up to 90 days in total, so apply early rather than close to the start date. Originals are shown at submission for verification.

Yes — Internship C applicants are EXEMPTED from Embassy visa fees. Only ₹652 VFS Service Charge applies per applicant.
Unpaid or stipend-covered internships qualify under Internship (Tirocinio Formazione). Properly contracted paid work requires Employment visa with Nulla Osta.
Internship C is for short-term internships ≤90 days (Schengen). Internship D is long-term (>90 days, up to your internship duration) and requires different documentation + longer processing.
