- 1Jurisdiction matters: North & East India applicants (e.g. New Delhi, Kolkata, Gurugram, Jaipur) are handled by the South African High Commission, New Delhi; South & West India applicants (Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka) apply via Mumbai centres under the Consulate General, Mumbai. Document lists differ slightly by region.
- 2At Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Goa and Bengaluru, your OLD/PREVIOUS passport is mandatory in addition to the current one.
- 3Passport must be valid for at least 30 days beyond your intended departure from South Africa and have at least 2 unused/blank visa pages.
- 4Form 11 (DHA-84) must be filled in BLACK ink and BLOCK letters, and signed to match your passport signature.
- 5Indian bank statements must be original, on bank letterhead, stamped and signed — passbooks, e-statements and net-banking printouts are NOT accepted.
- 6If a South African host/company bears your costs, their bank statement must be certified by both the SA bank AND the South African Police (SAPS); host ID/invitation often needs attestation by a Commissioner of Oaths.
- 7Yellow fever vaccination certificate is required only if you travel through or stay in a yellow-fever belt — check the latest policy.
- 8Documents in a regional Indian language must be officially translated into English.
- 9In some cases a personal appearance at the South African High Commission (New Delhi) or Consulate General (Mumbai) may be required before a decision.

The South African visa fee is GRATIS (free) for Indian nationals on visitor categories — you only pay the VFS Global logistic/service charge (₹2,040 at New Delhi & Mumbai; ₹2,301 at the other centres), plus a ₹160 convenience fee for multiple payment modes. There is NO exemption from the VFS service charge. Optional value-added services are extra: SMS passport tracking ₹55, courier return ₹885, premium lounge ₹2,000 — all per application. All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable regardless of the visa decision. The inviting company signs it, on its letterhead, naming you personally, the exact dates, the purpose of the meetings and — crucially — who is paying for what. Officers verify these: a letter with no signatory title, no company registration detail and no reachable phone number is worse than no letter, because it fails a verification call. Your own side matters just as much: a leave sanction or board resolution, your employment or directorship proof, and a travel history that fits the seniority the letter claims for you.
+Can I attend meetings, sign contracts or get paid on this visa?
Meetings, negotiations, conferences, trade fairs and training you attend are normally fine. What is not permitted is gainful employment — being paid by an entity in South Africa, or doing work that a local would otherwise be hired for, even unpaid in some categories. That line is where business visas get refused and, worse, where they get cancelled at the border. If your trip involves anything close to it, tell us the actual plan and we will tell you which route it needs.
