The South Africa Tourist Visa is a visitor's visa for Indian passport holders travelling for leisure, vacationing, sightseeing, cruising and recreation, as well as for visiting family or friends and attending sports events. The visa fee is GRATIS (free) for Indian nationals — you only pay the VFS Global logistic/service charge. Applications are completed on Form 11 (DHA-84) and submitted at a VFS Global South Africa Visa Application Centre in India. Decisions rest entirely with the South African High Commission, New Delhi (North & East India) or the Consulate General, Mumbai (South & West India).

The South African visa fee is GRATIS (free) for Indian nationals on visitor categories — you only pay the VFS Global logistic/service charge (₹2,040 at New Delhi & Mumbai; ₹2,301 at the other centres), plus a ₹160 convenience fee for multiple payment modes. There is NO exemption from the VFS service charge. Optional value-added services are extra: SMS passport tracking ₹55, courier return ₹885, premium lounge ₹2,000 — all per application. All fees are non-refundable and non-transferable regardless of the visa decision. The visa fee in INR is set at the current exchange rate and can change without notice — confirm live amounts on the VFS Global South Africa India page before paying.

What to gather
Having a document isn't the same as presenting it right — that's the part we handle.
In BLACK ink and BLOCK letters; signature must match the passport. For minors (below 18), a parent signs instead.
Valid at least 30 days beyond intended departure from South Africa, with at least 2 unused/blank visa pages. Old/previous passport is mandatory at Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Goa and Bengaluru.
Indian passports.
35mm × 45mm (3.5cm × 4.5cm), colour, white background, no border, face 70–80% of frame, looking directly at the camera, ≤1 month old. No headgear (except on religious grounds with face fully visible), no hat/cap, no staple marks. Scanned/photocopied photos are NOT accepted.
Stating purpose, applicant's name & passport number, duration of visit, and clearly who bears the trip expenses. On letterhead if self-employed.
Showing a balance of ZAR 3,000 (R3000) or the INR equivalent. Original, on Indian bank letterhead, stamped and signed — NO passbook, e-statement or net-banking printouts.
If the sponsor is in South Africa, the SA bank statement must be stamped/signed by the SA bank AND South African Police; if in India, Indian bank stamp & signature on all pages.
A proof of reservation is enough at the application stage.
Holiday: verifiable hotel booking with the hotel's address, contact and authorised signature; must be booked online or by the SA host/travel agency with stamp. (For family visit, the host invitation replaces hotel booking.)

You must show a 3-month bank statement with a balance of ZAR 3,000 (R3000) per applicant, or the INR equivalent. It must be an original statement on Indian bank letterhead, stamped and signed — passbooks, e-statements and net-banking printouts are not accepted.
Minimum 5 working days if you apply at New Delhi, and minimum 7 working days at Gurugram, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Goa and Bengaluru. These are indicative minimums — the High Commission/Consulate may take longer, so apply well before travel.
It depends on where you live. North & East India (handled by the South African High Commission, New Delhi) applies at New Delhi, Kolkata, Gurugram or Jaipur. South & West India — Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka (handled by the Consulate General, Mumbai) — applies at Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bengaluru or Goa.
Yes if you apply at Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Goa or Bengaluru — your previous/old passport is mandatory there in addition to your current one. Your current passport must be valid at least 30 days beyond departure and have at least 2 blank pages.

South Africa does not impose the Schengen-style mandatory travel medical insurance for the visitor visa, but carrying valid travel/medical insurance is strongly recommended. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required only if you travel through or stay in a yellow-fever belt.
