All US nonimmigrant visa (MRV) fees are set in USD by the Department of State and paid online in India via usvisascheduling.com. The INR amount depends on exchange rate on payment day. Additional costs: SEVIS fee for F/M/J visas (paid to ICE separately), VFS document delivery charges, photograph, and any USCIS petition fees (for work visas — usually paid by employer). MRV fees are non-refundable regardless of interview outcome. Plus USCIS I-129F filing fee ($535) paid by US citizen petitioner. Total journey (I-129F → K-1 → AOS → Green Card) costs $3,000+ across fees.

Do not book flights before the interview. The consular officer will not ask for a ticket, and the decision is made in a conversation of a few minutes.
Where people slip: Buying tickets to prove intent. It proves nothing to a US officer and is the most expensive mistake in this whole category.

No hotel booking is required for the DS-160 or the interview. Where you are staying may be asked verbally; nothing written is collected.
