Medical Treatment Visa (Schengen Short-Stay, Type C)

A letter from the treating hospital or specialist confirming they have accepted you, what the treatment is, when it starts, roughly how long it lasts and what it will cost. It has to come from the treating institution — a general enquiry reply is not the same document. Alongside it, the referral or diagnosis from your doctor in India, so the file shows a continuous medical story rather than a decision to travel that a letter was found for afterwards.

Most medical routes allow one or two attendants, usually close family, applied for at the same time and linked to your application. Funding is the part that gets questioned: the file needs to show the treatment cost covered — savings, insurance, employer or a sponsor's formal undertaking with their own income proof — plus the stay itself. Medical files are also the ones most often needed urgently, so tell us your treatment date first; it changes the whole plan.

It is not 90 days per country and it does not reset when you leave and come back. You apply to the country you will spend the most nights in. If the nights are equal across several, you apply to the one you enter first. Applying to the "easier" consulate when your itinerary says otherwise is a well-known refusal ground and, if the mismatch looks deliberate, it reads as misrepresentation rather than a mistake. Three things sit between today and your trip: preparing the file properly, waiting for an appointment, and the mission's own processing. Lithuania currently states 15 calendar days standard processing at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania, New Delhi (counting from when the visa section receives all required documents from VFS). May extend to 30 calendar days if additional documentation or an interview is requested. Applications submitted at non-Delhi (satellite) VFS centres take an additional 2–3 days for postal transit to the Embassy. The middle depends on slot releases. The third is entirely the mission's and no consultant can shorten it — anyone telling you otherwise is selling something they cannot deliver. Most of it is not ours. The Lithuania government fee (currently ₹9,720) goes to the mission and the visa-centre fee goes to VFS — both charged to you at cost, never marked up, and shown as separate lines on one GST invoice in the registered company name.
