- 1Apply at the VFS Application Centre covering your place of habitual residence — new appointment slots are released on the 1st Monday of each month for the East and North zones.
- 2Applications are only accepted within 6 months of the intended date of arrival.
- 3Your passport must have at least 2 blank pages and be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area.
- 4Overseas travel medical insurance is mandatory — minimum €30,000 cover for the entire trip (accident, illness, emergency evacuation, repatriation), from an approved insurer.
- 5For short-stay applications only ONE set of original documents is required (the embassy accepts a single set).
- 6After filling the form on Visa on Web, personal appearance at the VFS centre is required for biometric fingerprints + a live photo. Children under 12 (C visa) and D-visa applicants are exempt from biometrics in some cases.
- 7If you submitted fingerprints for a Schengen visa in the last 59 months, you may be exempt from giving them again.
- 8Third-party passport collection is not permitted except for immediate family, authorised government officials, or Red Carpet representatives with proper authorisation.
- 9Provide strong proof of ties to India (employment, business, property, family) — this is essential to show intent to leave the Schengen area before the visa expires.
