The Czech Republic Airport Transit Visa is for Indians transiting through the international transit area of a Czech airport (typically Prague Václav Havel) en route to a third-country destination. You do not enter the Schengen area on this visa — you remain in the airport transit zone. Required if you have a layover requiring you to pass through Czech border control. Indian nationals are generally NOT required to hold an Airport Transit Visa (ATV) for short layovers, but some itineraries / passport types may require one.

Confirm whether you are exempt
India is on the Czech national airport-transit list, so an Indian passport holder connecting airside at Prague needs an ATV unless exempt. Exempt: holders of a valid visa or residence permit for a Schengen state, the USA, Canada or Japan, or a UK residence permit. If you will pass border control or collect baggage, apply for a Schengen short-stay visa instead.
Secure your final-destination visa first
Visa or entry permit for the country beyond Czech transit MUST be approved before you apply for the ATV. Embassies will refuse ATV without it.
Confirm your onward ticket
Reservations are not enough — you need a confirmed (paid) onward ticket from the Czech transit airport.

The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists India among the nationalities that need an airport transit visa to pass through the international transit area of a Czech airport. You are exempt if you hold a valid visa or residence permit for a Schengen state, the USA, Canada or Japan, or a UK residence permit. Airlines check this at boarding, so settle it before you book a Prague connection.
