Rules that apply to every Estonia visa type — worth a quick read so nothing trips up your file.
- 1Applies ONLY to nationals of 13 listed countries. Indian nationals are NOT in this list.
- 2Iran: holders of Iranian diplomatic and service passports are exempt from ATV.
- 3EU/EEA, Andorra, Monaco, Canada, Japan, San Marino, USA residence permit holders are exempt — even if from one of the 13 nationalities.
- 4ATV does NOT permit entry into Schengen territory. For airport-side transit only.
Who Can Apply
- Nationals of: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, DRC, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran (with diplomatic / service passport exemption), Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Turkey
- ATV is NOT required for holders of EU/EEA, Andorran, Monégasque, Canadian, Japanese, San Marino, or US residence permits — even if they hold one of the 13 nationalities
Not eligible under this visa:
- Indian passport holders — ATV is NOT required for transit through Schengen airports
- Anyone wishing to leave the airport's international transit area — apply for an appropriate Type C visa instead

Visa fees in INR follow the current exchange rate set by the Embassy and may change without notice. Children under 6, family members of Estonian / EU / EEA / Swiss citizens, diplomatic & service passport holders, persons invited by the Estonian Parliament/Government, students/teachers on educational trips, non-profit reps under 25, and researchers from third countries are EXEMPT from the visa fee (VFS service charge still applies). Optional VFS add-ons: Courier (₹800), SMS (₹500), Form Filling (₹2,500), Premium Lounge (₹4,000), Courier Plus (₹1,750), Prime-Time Passport collection (₹800), Auto Call Back (₹500).

What Estonia actually requires — and what it does not.
Estonia applies the Schengen rules, so travel insurance is not a nice-to-have — it is a legal condition of the visa.

Flight reservation
The Estonia consulate wants a return itinerary with a real PNR covering your exact dates. It does not want a paid ticket, and buying one before a decision puts your money at risk for nothing.
Where people slip: Flying into one city and out of another with nothing showing how you travel between them. Officers read the whole route, and an unexplained gap reads as a plan that does not hold together.
How to hold a flight without payingHotel booking
Accommodation for EVERY night of the stay. Not most nights — every one. A gap is a documented refusal ground under the Schengen code.
Where people slip: Free-cancellation bookings are accepted, but if the entire file is free-cancellation the officer sees a trip nobody has committed to. Some of it should be real spend.
Refundable hotel booking, explainedTravel insurance
Minimum EUR 30,000 medical cover, valid in every Schengen state, including repatriation and emergency medical evacuation, for the full period of stay. Regulation (EC) 810/2009 — this is law, not preference.
Where people slip: Buying cover for the adults and forgetting the children. Every traveller needs their own EUR 30,000, infants included — a real refusal we have seen on a family of four.

Where people slip: Spending more nights in another Schengen country than in Estonia. That gets a file rejected before it is even assessed.

Confirm Estonia is your main Schengen destination
If your itinerary spends most time (or has its main purpose) in Estonia, apply with Estonia. If splitting time equally between Schengen states, apply through the country of first entry.

Visit https://eelviisataotlus.vm.ee/, complete the application form, save the PDF, print, and sign TWICE.

Gather all required documents
Refer to the document checklist for your specific category. All financial documents must be ORIGINALS in A4 format. Bank statements MUST be stamped and signed by the issuing branch.

Book your VFS appointment
Visit https://www.vfsglobal.com/estonia/india/ to book your appointment at any VFS Estonia centre across India.

Submit at VFS + biometrics
Attend in person with all documents. 10 fingerprints are collected (unless previously taken within last 59 months). Pay the visa fee (cash) and VFS service charge at the counter.

VFS forwards to Embassy of Estonia, New Delhi
VFS sends applications to the Embassy on the next working day. Satellite centres may take 48–72 hours in transit. Processing time clock starts the day after submission.

Wait 15+ calendar days for the decision
Minimum 15 calendar days. May extend to 45 days for cases requiring further scrutiny. Track your application via VFS website.

Collect your passport from VFS
Once notified, collect from VFS or use VFS courier-back. Verify visa validity dates and entry type before leaving the counter.
