Good to know before you apply
Rules that apply to every Spain visa type — worth a quick read so nothing trips up your file.
- 1Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended date of departure from the Schengen area, have at least 2 blank pages, and be issued within the last 10 years.
- 2You can apply at the earliest 6 months before travel and at the latest 15 calendar days before. Apply at least 3 weeks ahead to be safe.
- 3Travel medical insurance is MANDATORY: minimum €30,000 coverage, valid for the entire Schengen trip and across all Schengen states, including repatriation and emergency hospitalisation.
- 4Biometrics (fingerprints + photo) are captured at the BLS centre. They are valid for 59 months — if you gave them for an earlier Schengen visa within that window, you may be exempt.
- 5Spain is NOT serviced by VFS Global in India. Applications go through BLS International on behalf of the Embassy of Spain (New Delhi) and Consulate General of Spain (Mumbai). Apply at the centre matching your state of residence.
- 6Spain must be your MAIN destination (most nights spent there) for it to be the correct country to apply to. If you spend equal nights, apply to the country of first entry.
