Rules that apply to every Ukraine visa type — worth a quick read so nothing trips up your file.
- 1Ukraine is VFS + Embassy (NOT an e-visa for this channel). The application form is filled ONLY at the VFS centre by VFS staff against a ₹2,640 form-filling charge, then signed by you in person.
- 2Jurisdiction is fixed by the state where your passport was issued: West & South India (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana + UTs) goes to Mumbai/Ahmedabad/Bangalore/Chennai/Hyderabad; North & East India (Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, MP, West Bengal, Bihar, the North-East, etc.) goes to New Delhi/Chandigarh/Kolkata.
- 3Travel medical insurance MUST explicitly cover Ukraine with a minimum of €30,000. A Schengen/Europe-only policy that does not name Ukraine is NOT accepted.
- 4Photo specification: 35×45mm, colour, ≤6 months old, plain light background, no headgear (except religious), no tinted/reflective glasses, mouth closed, face 70–80% of the frame.
- 5Birth and marriage certificates must be translated into Ukrainian and notarised by Ukraine or the Embassy of Ukraine — translations done by Indian translators are NOT accepted.
- 6URGENT processing costs DOUBLE the normal consular fee. Children under 6 are exempt from the consular fee.
- 7For minor applicants under 18, only a parent or legal guardian may sign the application form.

Consular fees are published in USD for information only and are PAID IN INR at the Embassy of Ukraine exchange rate — confirm the live INR amount on the VFS Global Ukraine India page before paying. URGENT processing costs DOUBLE the normal consular fee. On top of the consular fee you pay the VFS service fee (₹2,970) and the mandatory form-filling charge (₹2,640) per applicant. If the Embassy calls you for an interview, a video-conferencing charge of ₹3,840 applies. Children under 6 years are exempt from the consular fee. All fees (consular + VFS) are NON-REFUNDABLE regardless of the visa decision.

You need a long-stay 'D type' visa issued on the ground of study, based on an official letter of invitation from your Ukrainian university. It covers courses longer than 90 days and is the basis for obtaining a temporary residence permit after you arrive in Ukraine.
For the long-stay D category you must show a 3-month bank statement with a minimum balance of about USD 7,600 (calculated at USD 80/day for 90 days plus a 5-day buffer). If you fall short, the inviting party can submit a notarised guarantee letter with its own bank statement, otherwise the visa is refused for insufficient funds.
Yes. Your previous diploma with marks appendix, your medical certificate and your birth certificate must all be apostilled and translated into Ukrainian, with the translation certified by a translator who provides their diploma and signature. Indian-translator-only versions are not accepted for birth/marriage certificates.
Normal processing is usually a minimum of 10 working days and urgent a minimum of 5 (at double the consular fee). Allow extra time for the apostille and Ukrainian translation of your documents before you even apply, and apply well ahead of your course start date.

That the money for tuition and living costs exists, is available to you, and came from somewhere explainable. Depending on the country that is a blocked account, a fixed deposit, a sanctioned education loan or a sponsor's income — and the sponsor's relationship to you has to be documented. The most common failure is not a small amount, it is an unexplained one: a large transfer landing shortly before the application, with no trail behind it, reads worse than a smaller balance with history.
+Do I still have to prove I will come back?
Yes, on most study routes — and it surprises people, because the whole point is a multi-year stay. The officer is asking whether the study plan is genuine and whether you intend to comply with the visa, not whether you will never emigrate lawfully later. What answers it is coherence: the course matching your academic history, the cost matching your funding, and a plan that makes sense for someone who intends to finish it.

Ukraine currently states Normal: usually a minimum of 10 working days. Urgent: a minimum of 5 working days (double consular fee).
