- 1Romania is NOT available on VFS Global in India — applications are registered on the e-Visa portal (eviza.mae.ro) and submitted at the Embassy of Romania in New Delhi by prior appointment.
- 2Applications are only accepted within 6 months of the intended date of arrival, and should be lodged at least 15 working days before travel.
- 3Your passport must have at least 2 blank pages and be valid for at least 3 months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area (issued within the last 10 years).
- 4Overseas travel medical insurance is mandatory — minimum €30,000 cover for the entire trip (accident, illness, emergency evacuation, repatriation), valid across all Schengen countries, from an approved insurer.
- 5Personal appearance at the Embassy is required for biometric fingerprints + a live photo, unless you gave fingerprints for a Schengen visa within the last 59 months. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprints.
- 6Romania has been a full Schengen member since 1 January 2025 — a visa issued by Romania is valid across all 29 Schengen countries, and Romania should be your main destination (most nights).
- 7Provide strong proof of ties to India (employment, business, property, family) to show intent to leave the Schengen area before the visa expires.

The Schengen short-stay visa fee is €90 (≈ ₹8,200), charged in INR at the current exchange rate and subject to change without notice. Romania does NOT use VFS Global in India, so there is no standard VFS service charge — instead a consular / e-Visa handling charge applies on top of the visa fee; confirm the exact figure with the Embassy of Romania in New Delhi at the time of application. Children below 6 are exempt from the visa fee; family members of EU/EEA/Swiss citizens exercising free-movement rights may also be exempt. All visa fees and service charges, once paid, are non-refundable regardless of the outcome.
